If you had 500$(taxes) and my car what would you do?

Ok, i have an 86 rx-7 n/a and my ultimate goal is drift/auto x.
One thing is it smokes on shifts when it's in the higher rpms. it only smokes for about 5 seconds then goes away until the next shift... i'm assuming oil rings?
i don't know to much about these 13b's heh.
so there's 150$ ?
i was also some springs
and full exhaust. headers/catless mid pipe to tip. I'm assuming i can have that done.. for about 250$? i have a friend that can do the exhaust for me.
Am i heading in the right direction? would you do something different?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

what color is your car? I know most of the people in Rapid City that have 2nd Gen RX-7s.

suspension is the main thing you should look to upgrade for doing that, expect to spend $400 at least for some decent shocks and springs, doesn't much room for anything else with your budget but nothing seems to be cheap with our cars...

a little smoke on shifts isn't anything to be hugely concerned with until it becomes bad then it is likely time for an overhaul, which is more like $1500 not $150.

Header will run about $150, decent mufflers will be about $150, and you'll at LEAST want a resinator or silencer of some sorts ($50). Springs & shocks are about $400, intake would run about $50/etc.

Blue smoke out the exhaust? Most likely oil leaking past the oil control rings on the rotors. no way to fix it besides replacing the rings, which means you have to pull the motor and disassemble it. I'm PM you. I haven't seen your car around town, but I've been in Iraq Since September. Do you have a AIM screen name?

if youre gonna pull the motor and tear it down, you may as well just rebuild it. if the oil rings are going, the motor will too before too awful long. save another 300 bucks, then do a full rebuild.

looks like a Sport...

If you were spending $500 I would replace the PD, then do a cat back exhaust, and save the rest (if there is any left) for the engine rebuild you need.

Then when you get some more money, and you have the motor already rebuilt; replace the wheels with 16x7 or 17x7, with decent tires, then replace the factory shocks with decent aftermarket (like Tokico or KYB) and all the suspension bushings.

Then start working on power.

eternil,
really if i were you and you want to break the rear tires free you should call tri-point engineering and have them send you some 4.44 or 4.56 rear end gears. These will make the car more fun to drive because the acceleration will be kick ***. No other bolt on can give you this performance besides forced induction of course. Everyone else will tell you about catbacks, air filters, clutches, and flywheels. Keep all that over priced stuff in the magazines and get the gears.

bukwild, what the hell are you talking about? different rear end gears does not have any effect on power, it just lowers the final gear ratio, giving you more torque at the wheels. you 1/4 mile times will be the same or slower, your car wont perform much different, you'll just be able to wast a bunch of extra money on tires.

saying that real mods are just for the magazines and you should spend your first mod money on something as dumb as a different rear end ratio is retarded.
