if all oil is lost in 5-15 seconds .. where did it come from?

basically if you lose damn near ALL your oil in a matter of 5 to 15 seconds ...

where all could it possibly come from?

surely not the omp lines (too small to flow that much)

block crack?
oil cooler lines?

and i'll say this ... its not the oilpan cause oil was spraying all over the engine bay as well

big puddle under the upper intake manifold .... spray all over the firewall ... etc etc

basically all the oil was on the floor in a matter of seconds .. as soon as i noticed the spray i shut her off, so i doubt i oil starved the motor ... i just need to know where to start looking, as oil is everywhere

it started doing this about 2-3 mins after startup .... the first time its been started in about 3 months

any help would be great!

make sure your oil filter is screwed on tight.

Did you forget to reinstall the drain plug when you did your oil change?

Also, it is common for the gasket ring on an oil filter to stay on the oil filter housing and if you reinstall a new gasket you have two gaskets that are mated together. THEY DON'T SEAL WELL AND YOU WILL GET A BIG MESS WHEN YOU START IT.

I speak from personal experience. The first I did back in 1983 when I was 16. The second occured when I was 21. I'm a lot wiser now :-)

I'd say loose oil filter, loose oil lines, and posilbly a cracked block by the rear dowel pin? Been running high boost lately in this cold weather?

possibly orings on the pedestal... only if it was really blown out though. like said above either the filter is loose, oil cooler lines or crack in the block.

the car was idling when this happened ... so i doubt its a cracked block ....

the spray seemed to come from the ABS unit ... which is what i thought was leaking at first ..

im thinking one of the turbo oil feed/return lines ....

keep in mind ... this is the first time the cars been started in 3 months .... granted i replaced the oil pan, but the plug is in it , and it held oil for 3 months with NO LEAKS ..

its not the oil cooler or lines because the pool formed under the pan, not towards the front of the car ..

and if the oil pan was the culprit it would have oil all over it and around it, but it doenst ... it only has oil that has run down the block and onto it ...

im thinking its the turbo or the turbo oil lines ...

could those lines drain it that quick?

last time i have seen such a massive amount of oil loss like that, the bolt on the front of the eccentric shaft fell out, sprayed on the fan, then coated the engine bay.

ok i just checked the turbo area, and the line on top was almost spotless as was the other one ...

why the hell was there a huge pool of oil under my upper intake manifold? surely it didnt spray hard enough to put that much oil under there .....

damnit this sucks ... im selling this heap

Fill it up, have somone watch the engine bay.. crank it up and let it idle for about 5 seconds and then shut it down.. they should eb able to pinpoint the oil leak at that point.. it will have to be a high pressure line.. check the oil cooler lines going to the block.

Can we get a picture of all this oil spillage? cant fully determine what is going on without an assessment of the evidence.

I lost all of my oil w/ a block crack... if it's all gone in a matter of seconds, pour some cheap-assed mineral oil in it; get in, turn it on, and look for the gyser... mine was a hairline crack on the turbo-feed area of the front housing; all across the dowell land... on an N/A. It ran too

under the UIM i would have to say the only likely culprit in that area is the turbo oil feed line that runs accross the front iron, the oil line fits snug in the valley of the front rotor housing and could have worn itself on the housing if it was not positioned properly. i would check that first.

thanks ... i'll check that later on today ...

i checked the turbo oil pipes directly underthe ABS unit, and they were damn near spotless, however i need to remove my TID and trace the pipes all the way around ...

Degrease the engine, disable the ignition and have someone crank the engine. Should be easy to then find the leak.

...take out the ignition fuse in the fuse block in the engine bay...its marked;

"Ign" <~~~i think...its pretty easy to decipher when you see it on that stack of fuses in the engine bay.
