Idle and starting problems
Idle and starting problems
I just got a 90 Convertible, 5 speed with 140K miles.
When cold it starts and runs fine. Stays at 2000 RPM longer than my 88's used to (I've had 3 of them) but thats OK.
If I shut it down for 20-30 minutes, its hard to start and the idle will drift between 500-800 RPM with the clutch in.
Last time I drove it, I pulled out of the parking lot and when i went into second gear, the engine wound rev up and down between 1000 and 2000 RPM no matter how much I pushed the gas pedal. With the car in gear it was jerking around horribly.
I shut the engine off, waited, started it again, engine revved normally once, then started the 1000-2000 pulsing again. After a few restarts, it finally ran normally.
I am thinking TPS is the first place to look ... but I never had to make any adjustments on my other cars so I am not sure what is involved.
Any other ideas as to what this problem might be?
THanks

my guess is that the TPS is good place to start like you said. since its a 90 you can check the codes ( www.1300cc.com ) has a nice tutorial on how to do that. is there any rough acceleration?
