Question Idle question

Alright first things first I have an 87 NA GXL. Stock, runs great, except for this odd problem. ..... ..... .... ok and *sobs* it's an auto.

When starting the vehicle and letting it go the Idle will level out great. The problem is that once I put it in gear (drive or reverse) if I don't either let the car roll on it's own or tap the gas the idle will drop and the car dies. The problem worsens if the car sits in the sun for a bit in which I have to hit the gas or it dies. After this first thing there is no problem for the rest of the drive.

Thanks in advance. Peace!

had the same problem when i got mine. just tighten the screw on your throttle under your hood to adjust your idle. mine was UNDER 500 when i got it. now its at about 7 - 750

Yeah I was thinking that at first but it idles at what I thought would be the 800 line (thought I could be wrong). Though I was driving earlier and noticed when I come to a stop the idle drops almost to the bottom then pops back... I don't feel anything of it though I know on my monte when the idle dropped the car shuttered a lil lol

yeah another thing. when its warming up my idle is 1500. so let that sit for like 5, 10 minuits... what i do is give it a little bit of gas when i go back to the car, and it drops back down. then thats when it should be completely warmed up. go ahead and start adjusting things to your likings then. you will have a good idea of where it needs to be in order for it not to choke on yah. ;-)
