Idle problems
Idle problems
Hello my fellow Rotarians,
I bought a '90 convertible automatic about a month ago. the driveshaft was damaged so I had to have it towed home. It would crank but smoke a lot. I revved it up after I got it home and it shut off at about 4500 rpm and really set off some serious white cloudy smoke. It would not crank again so I figured it would be flooded. I pulled the plugs and saw that they were fouled out. I bought new plugs, unflooded the combustion chambers, and cleaned the throttle plate. It started back up smoking and stopped after a while. When it got to normal operating temperature the idle surges or bounces back and forth from 1200-1500 rpm. I tried to adjust the idle but nothing worked. The check engine light is not on. I sprayed the induction hose and other vacuum lines while it was running but it does not appear to have a vacuum leak. I am not sure if the TPS is bad but I am not sure if anyone out there has had this problem.

W/key to on and the engine fully warmed up which takes about twenty minutes of driving time measure the voltage on the Green/Red wire of the TPS and set it to 1 volt by adjusting the TPS adjustment screw if necessary.
