Idle Problems

Hi, my car is having idle problems and i was wondering to what you guys think it may be. But I rather have a more knowledgeable group tell me.

1. It bounces back and forth 6-800. Sometimes it holds at 800

2. Sometimes when I put it into gear while holding the clutch down, it shoots up to like 11-1200 going to 1400-1500. And going back down constantly until i drive for a bit then it stops.

3. Once every week or two, if the car is cold and after the initial 3000rmp start up, during its trip back down, it just dies, or if the car is warm the car turns on and just gives out. This only happens a little bit.

And also this part is not related to idle, but my headers are glowing red. I thought it might be a clogged catylic converter, so i replace my stock one with a magnaflow and a new o2 sensor for emmisions also, but it is still red hot. Any ideas, thank you for all the comments

A couple of things which could cause a hot manifold could be the result of running too rich and an improperly set CAS/timing. Also, make sure the TPS is set correctly. The Green/Red wire needs to read 1 volt w/key to on and as hot as the engine can get (20 minute drive should suffice).
