I recently purchased a 1987 NA RX-7. It came with a bad starter, so I replaced it this labor day weekend. I enjoyed driving it around all labor day without issues. However, today when I tried to start it - it was able to start but then died after a few seconds. Although it is turning over, the car won't hold idle for even a second.
I've tried disconnecting the EFI fuse to clear a flood, and still no luck. I've cleared the flood one last time because the car will have to sit for a bit until I have time to work on it, and I don't want it to foul.
NOTE: While I was putting the new starter into place this piece fell on my face and I was wondering if anyone knows what it is?
It's a capacitor like thingie that smooths out the signal for the oil pressure gauge. It usually is attached to the trans by one of the clutch slave bolts.
There is also another one by the trailing coils.I think.
Would missing this piece be enough to cause the engine to die? Everything seemed fine yesterday... How would I go about replacing it? Is there a diagram or picture that shows where it needs to be attached? Thanks for the fast reply!
If that is a condensor (you should see the remnant of the wire that used to come out of it...), your car will run just fine and the gauge will be fine as long as the wire it used to connect to doesn't touch ground.
In any case, the pressure gauge circuit cannot cause the engine to run weird.
