Idle control sensor
The car I'm looking at ('87 TII) has a broken/defective/missing idle control sensor (car drives, but you need to constanly apply throttle or else it dies). what part do I need, how much does it cost, where do I get it and how hard is it to install?
Well, from the description, it sounds like you need a new Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), but from the symptoms, it sounds more like you need a new BAC valve. How much do they want for it?

the guy wants $2500, but when i looked at it we discovered some rust he didn't know about so that should be worth a few dollars (I figure I could get it for like $2000). but i need this problem addressed ASAP
he gave you most of the answer already. what he didn't mention is that parts sale section, you can pick up those items from other members and those particular parts are fairly common, too. if you want to spend more than necessary, go to a Mazda dealer or maybe mazdatrix would have those parts.
