idiling- TPS?

i have an 86 rc and i finaly got it fired up. the car runs half decent. i had it sitting for a while running ( first time fro about 4 years). i had it running numorus times over the last little bit and today i decided today was the day it was goin to move. i pulled it ahead and then put the clutch in and when the rpms went down. the car sputtered and shut off. i then fired it back up and ti did the same thing. i started it again but i helled it reving bouncing it up and down between 2 and 3 rpms. i backed it up and then pulled it into my garage. it seemed as if aslong as i was on the gas it wouldnt stall. but when i let it idle it would die out. i figured it might be my tps. any ideas?

Since the car has been sitting for 4 years, you have probably put a whole bunch of crap through the fuel system. See:
http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/unstore.htm

Your problem could be due to a gunked up fuel system, or just the standard vacuum leak/TPS adjustment issues.

No. Follow the idle adjustment procedures in the FSM/Haynes manual or search this forum.

The Factory Service Manual can be found in the FAQ For FC thread. It contains all this information and more, and is an essential tool for any sort of service work that needs to be performed on these cars.

Additionally, the Haynes service manual for the 1986 thru 1991 RX-7 (both turbo and NA) can be found at most local auto parts stores or purchased from any good bookstore (ISBN number 1 56392 007 7). It is only about $25 and is a great quick reference for things like this. Not only does it contain most of the information in the FSM condensed into an easy to read format, but it includes full wiring diagrams as well.

These manuals will answer 99% of service related questions for the car and if you intend to do your own repair work, you will need at least one of them. Preferably both, since the FSM is a free download.
