Dunno why our's never got that labeling though...its the same seat...
It's probably because that embroidery would cost an extra $Cash$ and were cheap hehe

I wouldn't necessarily say that. 160 HP is not bad. Hell, a farkin' Civic SI makes 160 HP.

about the seats....
I brought up the topic because they seem to be a little different than the other 89-91 seats. The turbo has leather with tilt and bolster. The base has different material and look completely different. My 91 turbo seats have a seperate headrest. My GTUs has molded headrest. They are different in material, and they have different functions. Not sure who made them though.

My TII has black leather seats without a seperate headrest and the only way you can adjust it is either sliding the base or tilting the seatback. AFAIK, the "TII" seats are also found in the GTU (88), Sport and in the GTUs (all with cloth, no leather.)

GXLs are equipped with the fancy seats.

Okay, well, update on the GTUs;

my friend checked it out. It is a power sunroof, but it's not power anything else, no rear wiper, red/black cloth interior, and the gearing seems to match up. argh, I'm going to go send the guy a deposit next month to hold the car for me. Hope it's the right call.

Erik knows what he's talking about. The TII and the GTU are kinda the same, just not turbo. The GXL is a luxury model.

Here's the best way to tell.

Get in and start the car. Now shift into first gear, release the clutch and slam the accelerator to the floor. If it moves as though you're hauling a trailer load of bricks, its definitely NA. Thats your first clue.

Second step, Post a picture of suspected GTUs on the forum and title the thread "Turboing a GTUs". After close inspection of said picture, our resident GTUs expert will give it a once over and let you know what you have.

Step three, wait for RarestRX to give an affirmative reply. If it is in fact a GTUs, it should go something like this...

Yo,

The evil snail, while it can be enticing at times, is no friend of the NA, especially the GTUs! Turbo that car and I will put an eternal "GTUs Whammy" on it!

If you recieve that reply, then...and only then...can you be sure it's a GTUs.

Yo,

Boosted, I still say my GTUs is faster than your TII! Unless the flatbed towtruck I saw it on last was a turbo diesel....*grin*

We'll see how Dana's GTUs to Turbo conversion goes...but for now I'm sticking with all rotor.

86-87 Sport = Stripped performance non-turbo model with aero kit
88 GTU = Stripped performance non-turbo model
89+ GTU = Base model
89-90 GTUs = Stripped performance non-turbo model
Thanks for the info. I had always wondered what the deal was between the GTU and GTUs model. I actually looked at an 88 GTU several years ago, but it had a sunroof- the solid type. I didn't buy it because of I needed a no-sunroof model for the headroom.
My take on this car is that it is the only RX7 model special made for competetion, since most club racing series allow limited mods and many require stock brakes. A N/A 13b 88 GTU/89,90GTUs has more racing potential IN CLASS than a TII. They only made 100 90 GTUs models?

...for the record, almost ALL the 2nd gen RX7s I have seen do not have the fender stickers- because or wreck repair or just repaints. Why do most 2nd gens seem to be so beat up? Hard living I guess.

Damn I am feeling the pressure now I would just love to do a super clean conversion and have everyone like it but as the saying goes can’t please all of the people all of the time.

well, my friend has a 1988 GTU, it's got a power sunroof (doesn't work but it's there)
Also has an am/fm sterea w/ tape deck and "amp" on the stereo.
It does not have power windows or locks.
pretty sure it's a GTU cuz it's got the sticker on the side and it's white w/ blue int.

you've got yourself a GTU. check for the AL hood like they say. the steel hood is like 55 lbs, where as the AL hood is around 25. its a huge difference. also the 16 inch wheels should be mesh wheels like on S5 t2's. you didn't mention either of those things as having been checked.

easiest way is to check the sticker on the drivers door jamb, it should read for tire size 205/55/16.
