Identifying clutch type LSD on an '87
Theres an 87 rx7 sitting in the junkyard, I am wondering if there is anyway yo find out if the rear end is the clutch type LSD without any disassembly. Was the rear end packaged with anything else?

i guess you can tell by havin the car jacked up in the back, and haveing both wheels in the air, and spinning one wheel, if the other spins the same direction, then it has lsd. I got a n/a clutch type lsd just installed, but when i tried that, the wheels moved in the same direction, but sometimes the other wheel dosnt move at all when i spin one. is it worn out? i just broght it not too long ago also.

auto adjusing suspension can be easily identifyied by 2 buttons in the center console that say sport and normal OR look at the tops of the front shock towers for some wires stickin out. S4 GXL also has dual-caliper brakes, power windows, sunroof as standard options. Mine did not say GXL on the side, perhaps it had been removed at some point.

Dont all the fc that come with lsd are clutch type???????
you can tell if it has a lsd by going under the car and looke at the diff, thier should be some square peice of metal that should have a sticker that says "limite slip differentail gear oil" well thats how i found out my 88Gxl has a lsd

probably the quickest way will be to check for the "LSD fluid only" tag on the fill plug of the diff.......
otherwise the jacking up and spinning the wheels method is next....
as well there is a thread SOMEWHERE on the teamfc3s website that has a very in depth description of the physical differences between the diffs...ie. number of fins on an open vs. LSD....width of the entire pumpkin........etc etc etc

85W90 or a 90W is ideal if you can find it. In worse case a 75W90 can be used, but it tends to be a little thin when cold and can lead to increased wear
