You're making a big deal out of nothing. All of what you're saying makes perefect sense for someone who wants to throw on a full intake and exaust, but that's not what he's doing! An 18yo cat will be completely clogged anyway; removing it should be considered a repair. Please keep your advice in perespective.

I'm sort of agreeing with NZConcertible but I can also see the point bigdv519, although, I'm not really even doing a modification. My cat is probably already clogged as hell and basically all I'm doing is letting the engine breathe more.

But that's just my opinion, I don't know much... But yeah, I'll still check for my car's condition regardless and I think regular is maintanence is required with or without a cat.

Thanks for the input.

I had a straightpipe its too loud and very noticable. Buy a resonitor to replace your cat, has a very nice tone and not too loud.

since you still wanna go straight pipe, the best result would be to make your own. its not hard at all. i've made a few for na's and tII. piping is 2" or 2.25". All you gotta get is pipe, and two flanges and get someone who can weld if you can't do so yourself. I've had great results from straightpipes, yes they are loud, but really nice in performance.

I am fairly sure he wont stop with a removed cat, so my advice is: If your going to do it, do it right the first time.

I supposed my fuel pump rewire and Walbro was a bit over kill for having just an intake on one of my TII's, but I also faired lucky compared to most. I couldn't hit fuel cut with a full intake and a full DP->straight pipe exhaust. I had a weak wastegate spring, and that is what would have saved me if I didn't already have the fuel pump/rewire.

I am a bit of a risk taker, but possibly, maybe, risking an engine with no funds to back it up sounds a tad imprudent to me.

Also the thread starter has already posted in another thread that he is looking for ~300 hp. If that is his goal, he need a 300 hp fuel system to begin with.

No, he needs a 300hp fuel system when he's making 300hp. He's just removing the cat from a stock car, which will be easily handled by the stock fuel system. When he asks about doing mods that will actually need fuel mods then he should follow your advice. But in this thread for this mod your suggestions are ridiculous and won't make his car any safer. All a Walbro will do for him is increase fuel consumption.

I removed (gutted) my cat on my 87 TII last week and it makes a huge difference. I don't have an fcd and it doesn't hit fuel cut. Now the car spools faster (doesn't make much more boost), and pulls around 500rpms past redline, and actually mine got deeper sounding and maybe a little louder, but not noticeably. It actually has more power down low also because there is this huge hill i go up everyday that i usually have to downshift to maintain speed, and since i gutted the cat i can just keep it in fourth and drive up it.
