i took the skittle for a drive today!!!!!!

well today i got the skittle registered and insured.. the ride started out with me very nervious because i had no clue what was going to happen... after a few miles though i was fine.. the car ran pretty good over 1200 rpms, it seemed to ruffly idle at 800 or soo, it was really smooth around the 3000 range, i had no problems with oil pressure or overheating.. i only took it 11 miles because the brakes dident work very well, i will rebleed them tommarow.. but there is one complaint i have, the cabin of the car smelled of exhaust fumes the whole ride, and i need to drive with somone on my permit and my dad said he wont drive with me unless i get it fixed, so anyideas????... but over all it WASSSS AWSEOMEEEE, i love the car even more now...now lets hope that damm compression goes up...

peaceee

cool man. Congrats on the drive. That feeling will never go away cuz a 7 is your first car. It was mine and im 19 now and still cant get enough of it. My friends think I'm weird cuz i still love to just go out for drives for no other reason than it's fun. The ppl who make fun of you for it are boring anyway, right? Right. Congrats. Enjoy

That exhaust smell your getting is probably a bad seal on the hatch or one of the doors. More than likely is the hatch. I had the same problem and coincidentally i changed the seal on the hatch and voila!!! I dont walk around smelling like lawn mower no more.

HTH and keep up the good work!

the premix makes your car smell, mine reaks. A few people who have ridden in my car look for things dumped out, smelly stains etc.

Missing firewall gromets, torn shifter boots etc will make it smell alot more though

Congrats on finnaly getting her on the road

My vote would definately be on the shifter boot rubber (its under the leather/plastic interior trim) I would look there first, then like others have said pre-mix adds to the smell a bit, but more so the no emissions factor.

Nice work... it feels great to be driving a car that you (re)built.... doesn't it? I've had mine on the road for a week now and I just hit 500miles on the rebuild as I pulled into the driveway today. Just watch out for the young kid in the sports car look one you get your liscense... I got my first ticket with mine on the second day it was on the road (for a loud exaust...well no exhaust... i was on my way to the mechanics so he could put mine on... with the lift, i was sick of laying on the ground under the car on stands).

Congrats man.

People claim that running premix and no cats makes your car smell....

Well I'm doing both and it doesn't smell.

I How are your mufflers? I didn't see a mention but my stock mufflers had rusted holes on the top so it would leak a bit.

A Hatch seal would be my guess since I don't have shifter opening seals either.

you are just running pig rich, mine smells inside the cabin if i have the windows down also and i have no leaks at any seals.

the only way to fix it is to lean it out(SAFC or Fcon, etc) or to put a cat on it, you could get a cheap cat at Kragen for about $65 and have it welded in at the test pipe and get another test pipe made up for when you don't need to have a parent with you.

i agree, my car with a full exhaust has never had a bad smell in the cabin, only when i had a gutted main cat did it do that, but it would go away with both windows down. but yes, very good job
