I went 10.02 in my GXL with header, and 2.5'' exhaust. I had a broken diff mount, bad struts, and bald tires.

Work on your launch. And get some tires. I ran a 2.2 60 ft on bald Nitto 460's(shitty), and then an embarassing best of 2.4 on cooper cobras, after I learned how to launch a lot better.

The best thing ever for lowering times is LEARNING HOW TO DRIVE. Just go practice, and make sure your car is running up to par. Do a tune-up on it, new plugs/wires/fuel filter/tranny and diff fluid/etc.

It really depends on the tires, but slippign the clutch some us usually the best way, unless you have extremely grippy tires. You want the rpm's low enough that you dont kill your clutch, and high enough that you wont bog or slip the clutch for too long. I would start with around 3500, and just go practice.

Much of the tune-up stuff you can easily do yourself with a jack, some jack stands, and a set of metric tools.

Do you have cats? You might want to check them out. Take them off, and look through them with a flashlight. You should be able to tell if its clogged. Its kinda hard to explain what it looks like, but you'll know it when you see it.

I think Fprep will agree with me here, smoothing out the 6 ports makes an impressive increase in power, especially on the low end. I made mine out of nylon, and pushed them into the engine with the manifold off. Fprep, if I remember correctly, filled them and grinded them out to a nice transition suring the last rebuild. I will be making a batch of the nylon ones to sell to a few people, and if you want to get a set, no prob. PM me for details.

Losing weight is always a good idea for making a n/a quick.

I used to slip my clutch at about 4200 and let it all the way out at 5 grand. Not the best for the life of the clutch, but I had a 2.0 60' with the aforementioned shitty setup

Mazdaspeed7,
What does "smoothing out the 6ports" do??

Is that better than wiring them open or taking them out altogether??

Thanks,
Jeff

The 6 ports end in a dead end behind the ports, which is very bad for flow. I made a piece of nylon that I pushed into the block that directs the air into the chamber smoothly. Ill have some pics up later today.
