I had a GTUs that had a blown engine when I bought it. I actually wound up driving that thing around 50 miles from time to time, once when I had no other ride, a couple times for the hell of it. WHen I finally took it apart, I found the usual torn up rotor/housing and the other still in excellent condition. When an engine blows an apex sea it usually takes teh rotor and housing with it 95% of the time, so unless you had one of those other 5% motors youre not gonna do any further damage, IMO.
But, like Sniper said, it doesnt matter, if it is blown it is blown. As faar as I am concerned, if you need to go somewhere, get in it and go. Youll have to learn how to drive it blown up, and youll wear your clutch out a bit more, but it is still driveable in an emergency.

Well, the engine is blown, but I found a car for sale for $650 w/ an engine built by Kevin Landers in it w/ only 1500 miles
Kid wants a MK3 Supra Turbo, so sold me the entire car and I went and picked it up. I am yanking the motor and putting it in my car and parting out the rest to make up the cost.

Maybe this will help: I had a fuel injection cleaning done YESTERDAY, and the car ran fine before it, then wouldn't start at all... The problem: The plugs got fouled from the cleaner. The solution: New plugs and she runs fine. Check your plugs.

"Interestingly, the rotor got beaten near one of the sides, causing the rotor to mushroom outwards. It was actually rubbing HARD against the side housing. The rotor has a big shiny spot where it was widened."
This didnt all happen at once..
All im saying is that its not smart to drive a blown engine.

I am not suggesting that the housing and rotor would be re-usable.
if thats what your saying.
I am just saying that collateral damage will happen.
bearings can get destroyed if the engine seizes, the other rotor, (with no doubt apex seals that are just as old) could throw one of ITS apex seals when it would not have otherwise.
this would destroy BOTH halves of the engine.
Just dont drive a blown engine if you dont have too.

My engine just popped a while ago, and I noticed after I 'babied' it home the exhaust system was *much* hotter than normal, to the point that the mufflers have heat discoloration. Driving it like this can't be a good thing...

I imagine that it's more likely for the other apex seals to go after the first one goes.. Bumpy housings, etc... Pieces of metal slamming into your turbine blades on the turbo are not good...
Sure, it may be "drivable" for a while... but I wouldn't want to unless i absolutely had to.

Sorry about that Vettekiller, I wasn't looking at the pic very well. A fairlady Z is what most people call the twin turbo 300ZX. Yeah they are fast cars but like I mentioned before they are pretty heavy. But hey I would like one for an everyday driver.
