Exclamation I think this guy might be fooling me

Ok friday i got a tune up in my 88' TII and it was 79$ cheap.....im sponsered so im not complaining, but anyways he says that i have a turbo crack or exhaust manifold crack....thats why my turbo is spooling up as quick. Thats not bothering me....he also said that i need a new mass air flow sensor and it would cost 1400$ for a new one and 6 hours of labor which at 45$/hour adds up....could someone explain to me why this is so much and y it takes so long?

Also my car isnt idling very well either....some times it runs at 500rpm and almost dies...(dies atleast twice in the mornings) and then after i race its at 1200rpm...could someone tell me whut to do thx

james

A mass air sensor is a 15-20 minute swap, not 6 hours. Perhaps he is including the time to replace the exhaust manifold?

And your thread has been edited to remove the racially/ and religiously offensive comment. The next time you will be banned.

There would be no reason to lift the engine, for either the exhaust manifold or the AFM

I'd quote 6 hours for a AFM R&R and Turbo & manifold R&R, but I'd probably do it in half that.

Book says 4 hours for a turbo R&R in car.

But regardless, if it is that big of a deal, then why don't you just do it yourself???

This "guy" sounds suspiciously like a Mazda Dealership.

How far off book hours and new parts prices is this quote? Not far.
