I reinstalled the clutch fan and shroud y-day. Welcome back jet-sound.

I saw 210 on the gauge yesturday, I figured maybe the efan from the 92 dodge shadow just isn't enough. It was a hot day--around 100.

I took it home, put some gloves on and did my best to force (brute force) the shroud into its new home. I installed the clutch fan and took it for a drive-- same route that I saw the 210 on.

Well, It never went past 190 suprisingly, I was pleased, other than the jet sound. I can't rev past 7k, so I'm pretty sure the clutch fan isn't disengaging like it should be. That and at crusing speed 35ish, it sounds like a freaking jet in the front engine bay.

I'm 75% sure the clutch is sol. I wish I had money for a better efan. Then again, the season is about over, and i won't have reason to worry, but the clutch-fan definately did out-perform the efan, by about 20 degrees. Pretty impressive, but I don't like it.

I'll be going back to the efan in a few weeks when we're past this 100degree stuff...

Please, don't be making a blanket statement on all e-fans when you're using used parts from some other car...

He didn't say that all E-fans sucked Ted. BTW, what is your preference as far as an e-fan? I'd prefer to have one, but there's no general consensus on what the best NEW e-fan on the market is. I just don't trust used parts, especially from junkyards..

We use Spal fans.
Made in Italy.
They are supposedly the "Cadillac" of automotive electrical fans.
Easiest way to get them are on eBay.
Minimum 2000cfm recommended.

Why I mentioned where it came from. If I had a decent efan, I wouldn't have bothered messing with the clutch fan. Anyhow, I far prefered the efan over the clutch fan, it just couldn't keep up though. I'm sure a decent efan that was meant to handle the heat would be fine.

E-fans aren't all bad, I just don't see much purpose to them since the stock fan/shroud is a really good piece. An e-fan taxes the FC's already weak charging system and you won't get significant power/respose from removing the parasitic OEM fan.

Part of the problem, from what I gather, seems to be that people with E-fans don't run a shroud. The shroud helps quite a bit. I'm guilty of that too.

On our last dyno day, my 2700 CFM Vintage Air was still not able to keep my TII cool, while my friends car fine with his stock fan and shroud.

Btw, what is a better setup: push or pull?

Your clutch fan should stop making noise like jet at around 3500 RPM.... if it doesn't, its locked up and you need a new fan.

I just put my clutch fan back on as well. I was usung a Black magic on my TII before the front mount./ With the FMIC.... temps were always around 205 in the city and i wasn't comfortable with that.

I even have a Koyo aluminum, extra capacity radiator and sealed up the sides of the radiator very well.

I think the big problem with the Black magic is that it only coveres about 2/3 of the radiator, its shroud just isnt big enough.

With the stocker back on, yeah i get the noise until about 3500 when the motor gets warm, but my temps stay rock solid at 188-190, and i like that a lot!!

Are you using a Haltech to control the car and your fans?

For most of the installs, yes.

One of the big things overlooked with the stock viscous fan is added drag on the water pump.
Now, this might not afftect you if you still have the air pump, but if you have no air pump + double pulley and belts, the drag of the stock fan can cause the water pump to slip.

Er, don't you mean if you don't have dual belts it'll slip? Fitting a dual-belt pulley cured all my belt slippage problems.

I never said it'll guarantee slip.
It should be more accurately stated as "there's a better chance the water pump will slip due to the increased load of the stock viscous fan", regardless of a double pulley set-up or not.

Ah, this is true. My 12AT never had belt slip problems despite a single belt and no air pump, because it had electric fans. With the air pump removed from my FC, the belt would squeal when the clutch fan engaged, but dual belts has stopped this.

Yeah, between a dual belt alternator pulley and 2 belts, you'll only be out about 40 bucks, so people might as well get them if running only one belt..
