Unhappy I rear ended someone in my fc... I want to cry

I just got the registration finished yesterday. I put so much time and love into this car since I got it, and now my whole front clip is destroyed. I need a new hood, new housing for both headlights, new front bumper. I'm so mad. I don't know what to do, my grandmother insured it until I could get a job and it's only liability so they won't cover anything. I don't know what to do. Stupid girl sitting in the middle of the suicide lane. I wasn't even going 20 mph, but I need new brake pads. I can't afford to fix it. Not anytime soon. I can't even look at my car anymore.

Anyone know any sites to buy new parts? Good ones, I mean

You have no job and your grandmother insures your car and you want NEW parts after saying you can't afford to fix it... an fc is not the car for you...this should be moved to the lounge or just deleted

I'm a sophomore at ASU and I had a hell of a class schedule this semester so yeah, I haven't been working. I have an interview at a software company where I've already been hired everywhere but on paper next Tuesday. She was only insuring me until next month so I could get to/from class.

No, I was not on my phone, I'm a stupid kid but not that stupid.

I hadn't replaced the pads because I was supposed to borrow a jack from a friend this weekend else I'd have to pay someone else to install them, and it isn't like they're awful, but coming to a complete stop from 20 mph in 15 feet isn't something I could do with the state they're in. I stayed off the highway and never went faster than 40, but you're right, I should have made it a priority.

I was at fault, I'm not trying to blame her, but she was completely stopped in the suicide lane. I had just been driving around listening to music and I was heading home, I changed 2 lanes at once and my view of her had been blocked by the car in front of me to my left, and I was too surprised to downshift soon enough. I realize I shouldn't have been driving like a dumbass and cut across lanes, but I'm just looking for a little empathy and maybe some help repairing the damage. A buddy of mine told me this was the best most supportive Rx forum out there, guess not.

4/22/2015 Collision - Album on Imgur

I'm more upset because the car was in excellent condition and 100% stock at 100,000 miles. I was proud to have such a well-kept car, and now I've gone and ruined it. First car, first accident, first citation.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-

I feel you on the whole school life drain. I'm actually also a student at ASU! No time for the 7, even though she's sitting in the garage, waiting for some love...

When you get the time and money to put some work into her, hmu! I'd be more than happy to help. For tools, I don't have anything at my dorm, but I've got plenty at my house. Definitely have a floor jack and jack stands for you to borrow. I don't have much in the way of spare parts; I think I have an extra red headlight housing, headlights motors, and a couple lights themselves I could throw your way. It's borderline impossible finding junked RX7s in the salvage yards here in Phoenix, so parts cars it is. I saw a craigslist posting of a guy parting out a white GXL with an intact motor, so if you're looking for important bits you might have damaged underneath the bumper, he might be someone to check out.

As for anything new, try Rockauto. Dirt cheap, just gotta mind the shipping. I'd suggest brakes first, although I'd also suggest you rip into the front end and check for frame damage before anything else... It seems like the bumper cover and hood took the majority of the damage, but it's safer to have a look. Crash bar might be a bit dinged up.

Hope all goes well, either way!

The old car I had was an insurance claim that "tapped" a light post.
I looked at it and replaced the fender, headlight assembly and hood..
Done..right?
NOPE>>,,the whole front end was off an inch and would dog-track down the highway.I had to get the frame straightened on it to make it right.

Your situation sounds worse and more direct in contacting an inanimate object.
THAT is why you most likely will not get by with just tossing better looking non-dented parts back on the car,it will not drive or ever be the same,...and that is why I am saying to save money and look at the car,OR get the car professionally checked out before you just replace dented stuff.
My opinion is that you are getting into a mess, and the car maybe better to be parted.

Fair enough, though it can't hurt to check. Now I'm really curious to see what kind of damage is under the bumper cover.....

I've been driving it around, carefully. I took it on the freeway and it sounds and feels the same at high speeds the few times I took it out. I'll take the front end apart mother's day weekend, but all in all I'm pretty sure it's just the bumper cover, I checked all the lines and even the hood still sits properly, the dent just makes it raised a little. No damage to the driveline or radiator, I'd cut myself lucky if the frame was off an inch, but I really doubt it. I slowed down enough and hit it at more of an angle than head on so in the photo you can see I think the driver's side bumper mount absorbed the impact. Will post more pics when I examine it.

Thanks man, small world! My dad has a really good body guy who's a friend, got $4000 worth of work done for under $1500, he's going to call him up and see about a quote, he thinks it'll be between $500-$1000 (which I should be able to do) but if you're free after finals and want to help me take the front clip off that would be awesome, this is the first Mazda I've worked on so everything I've done has been a learning experience, but I'd like to avoid damaging anything else not knowing what I'm doing. I've got some basic tools and a set of rhino ramps, if you're down I'll pm you my number.

I would consider buying another car, maybe with a blown engine and swapping everything over. I don't know how good you are at wrenching or what your budget is, but that could be an option. Maybe that car might have more brake pad life left too.

Honestly GP I don't think the damage is enough to warrant writing the car off at all. I just took it out since there isn't a soul on the freeway and it's still smooth sailing at 110+ mph. I think the damage is strictly cosmetic. Which still sucks, but no, I think to part it out or swap everything over would be a little drastic

Yeah, it also depends on how cheap or how clean of a chassis you could find. I've seen some for dirt cheap.

Your damage doesn't look that bad. I hate accident damage. I hope everything works out at the end

Well, the fact that the car doesn't behave any differently is a definite plus, although since the integrity of the 27-ish year old frame is still unknown, I wouldn't suggest driving the car much until the extent of the damage can be ascertained. Especially not at 110MPH when the brakes aren't up to par...

Well anyways, preliminarily, you can try looking at this: http://wright-here.net/files/manuals...SM/14_body.pdf

The first bit will show you how to pull apart the front end, which will be handy for later, and the last pages are dedicated to body and frame dimensions. Take a measuring tape and test the lengths that are accessible to you without removing any panels or the engine, and that might give a better indication of how the frame is doing, especially the diagonals. Also, if you have pictures of the body panel gaps with the headlights and hood down, post them up since they might offer insight on anything wrong under the skin.

I'd still wait until the car's nose is off to give a verdict.

But yeah, that's cool! I'm down. I'm in the same boat as you, since this is the first rotary I've worked on.

I love how you keep saying you've driven it well over highway speeds, and still haven't fixed the brakes, right after an accident without knowing the extent of the damage...

It dosent look all the bad from the pics. fenders, headlight assemblies, NA hoods, are all pretty easy to source. if you didn't hurt any of the suspension or steering components or even damage your oil cooler and Radiator your probably good to go. your front bumper cover is poly urethane and is pretty flexable so it might not even be bad out side of a little scuffed paint. you don't need to worry so much its not a bad as you may think, a couple weekends and a friends help youll be back up an runnin fresh in no time.

Wait...the car has been in an accident, possibly related to bad brakes and you take it up over 100mph.

Please do not move to my town, there are enough bad drivers here already

have the alignment checked, fix the brakes. Drive it. Fix it when you get a job/pay check.

@JustJeff and @barkz, I don't appreciate the cynicism, I said I took it out when the freeway was completely empty, literally passed one person 2 lanes away from me at 3 am, and I didn't sustain it for more than about 20 seconds. The brakes are not FAULTY, they just aren't capable of going from 25-0 mph in .5 seconds. I am very careful, and the only reason I got into the accident was because I made an error in judgement and the woman was PARKED in the suicide lane. Not to mention this wasn't a serious accident.

@HRnico My alignment has not changed visibly but I will have it checked out, just ordered some performance ceramic brakes, need to take the rotors off and see if they need to be replaced as well. Definitely my first priority, should be done by Friday.

@13bREW yeah that's what I'm hoping, really glad the bumper is PU, makes life a lot easier. Headlights are being a pain in the *** though, and I'm not sure what to do about the motors, everyone says I'll just have to rip them out of another in a junkyard

@Grosspolluter Thanks man, I will look to see if I can find a cheap one, either way it's always good to have parts around and I do a lot of drifting so it's a worthy investment

BTW thanks everyone with something constructive/kind to say, I really appreciate it

OP, you JUST had an accident, you should be well aware of how quickly an accident can happen due to something you did not see. Be safe, be smart. Get your car looked at BEFORE you run it up well over the speed limit "to see how she does"

Very much so. I don't even want to know what Fuhnortoner has to say, I don't like to be disrespectful and it looks like this conversation is going downhill. I'll take care of my car. Thanks everyone.
