I think these guys have it wrong...

You want to get that boost under control and a little more performance and you have a little extra cash.

I would replace that '87-88 turbo and manifold w/ a '89-91 turbo and manifold. About $200 used- get it rebuilt if you have any doubts on its condition.

Now you have lower boost due to the 2 wastegate design, better performance and simplification (ditching the dual scroll actuator system).

Hey if you were going to all the trouble of pulling the turbo to port the wastegate you might as well put something better back on!

Well I wouldn't say I had it wrong, but your advice is good. The S5 turbo is a better base to start from.

what happens if you just port the wastegate hole (@ flapper area) and don't in-large the exhaust housing?

you really need to port the wastegate. Even if you get the fuel to support 15 psi, you're overspinning that turbo. Port the wastegate, get bigger secondaries (at least), and get an S-AFC. A boost controller is only as good as the wastegate.

Unfortunately I didn't mean it that way, sometimes I have problems explaining what I mean, ahhh well.
