I need your help! Tranny/Clutch stuff

ok, there's a squeaking noise everytime i push down the clutch, i don't know what it is, i think it's the syncro's. it's really hard to put it into any gear, once i get it into 1st, the clutch doesn't fully disengage when i push down the clutch. it keeps on rolling, if i hit the brakesand stop, the car stalls. i have a '87 Turbo II. any suggestions? clutch is bad? syncro's? tranny?? please help

Quick reply. Check clutch hydarlics eg the clutch master cyl. If cylinder is leaking internally, the pressure plate will not release all the way, therfore not allowing the disc to stop turning, hence hard shifting etc. Check for "free play" at the top of the clutch pedal. Push pedal in and hold to floor for 1 minute. Check play. If substantially different, clutch master cyl bad. Leaking internally. If fluid is low, check for any external leaks. Once hydralics fixed, then you can check if syncros are a problem.

Clutch is not adjustable other than at the pedal. Do as he said....check the hydraulics first. Try bleeding, then think maybe throw-out bearing. Mazdatrix has a transmission troubleshooting page on their site.

Just thought I'd post another reply. If clutch free play 1/2" and doesn't change if you hold it to the floor for a minute, you had better check pilot brg. If pilot bearing not allowing the main shaft to slow down, you'll experience the same problem.

Gotta be something like the throw out bearing. Could be the pilot bearing also. Both require removal of the tranny. The pilot bearing is a BITCH to change.

Thumbs up pilot bearing removal

heya! I know this message is late in the coming... But the best thing can recomend is (I had the same problem once so did my bro.) there is a tool called a slide hammer and/or pilot bearing removal tool. Supposedly you have to get a rx7 specific one. Appaently the others can do damage to your flywheel. Anyway once you get one of these it is a snap! I think you can rent it from mazdatrix or one of those online places.. Mabey rotaryperformance... If you replace it, remember to order the pilot bearing seal/gasket. Caused me alot of trouble! Hope this helps! Good luck man!

i doubt it is the pilot bearing i think it is more likely the throwout bearing, also called the clutch release bearing. They get sticky sometimes and dont want to move because of too much gunk and grease.
