Ok, so I have found this Base FC on ebay, it's an hour's drive from me, and I have around $500 saved atm, and getting another job very soon. It looks a bit roughed up, but overall in good shape. The engine is said to have been rebuilt, and has 60K miles on it atm. I would have preferred to buy A 5-lug higher spec model, but this seems to be a realy good offer. As for the funky paintjob, If I DO buy the car, it's going to see the DIY "flat black" paint job. Thanks for your help guys.
EDIT: My father owns a tuck with a hitch, so it shouldn't be too hard to rent a trailer for a day, and if the enigne realy is ok, then I could make it work, unless it needs a full rebuild.
I would love to hear some people opinions on what the description tells you people, on what may/ does need to be fixed.

Make sure you check the floorboards and frame rails before buying any car that's seen some hard winter driving. You can see a decent amount of rust in the pictures so there's probably more where that came from. Don't waste your money on a rust bucket; you can find a car with a clean body for less money than the cost (in dollars and time) of trying to save a bad one.
Any ideas as to why it wont keep on running? I'm thinking that maybe the plugs/wires need to be replaced? Any crucial vacum locations?

from the look of that e-fan and the red shift boot it looks like whoever previously owned it didn't really care if it was mechanically sound, he just wanted it to look pretty.
it looks like it would be a lot of time and money to restore but if you are ok with that and theres not too much rust then this car sounds like a pretty good deal (considering I paid 2600 for a t2 with a blown motor but a good body). check out the archives for diagnosing idle problems and you might be able to fix it without rebuilding it. It's a base. Everything undesirable in an RX-7 is standard on that car: 4 lugs, weak brakes, zero options. You will kill yourself (and spend a small fortune) trying to turn it into a GXL, GTUs or T2 equivalent. Think of it this way: You will buy that car for $400 and sink $2k into it to have the equivalent of a car you can buy for $1500. That just doesn't make good fiscal sense.
For example:
$1200 'vert in Seattle
$600 GTU in MS with a blown motor, but ****, at least it's 5 lug
$1500 Turbo II
I would start with any of those over that thing on Ebay. Anyone here disagree???

what if I'm not trying to turn it into a GXL/GTU? Maybe I just think that for the price, and wanting a rotary, it works. ****, the thing is I can wait, and save up a lot more. Then I can get a nice GTU or something...
But this thing seems to have an easily fixable problem, and some work that needs to be done, after that, hell maybe I'll re sell it...
I saw an S5 mint vert on ebay go for 2.5K IF i had the money, I would have snatched that up so quick, yet I dont. Ah, man just when I was getting exited about it too.
I also could have snatched up a nice 2+2 GXL, no rust, realy nice car, no comp on rear rotor, for 350$.
I can NOT ******* aford a rebuild at this time.... that's part of the reason I was looking at this, its guaranteed to run for a while, and it's 2+2. Yes its a bit of a POS, but it's my first damn car, mate.
I can always buy a nicer FC, maybe even a T2 later, I'm not that old.

Whoa, what's with that? I AM asking for advice... just that some of the reasons you listed, like it having a 4 lug, etc being why I shouldn't get it, etc. I was trying to say that I don't realy NEED all the fancy stuff at this point, not saying I don't wat to hear advice, in fact, Thank you very much for your opinion and input, $100T2.

I bought a nice 'vert for $1k a few years back. It was a sexy beast with a hell of a suspension + shocks combo, exhaust, intake, TII, and a killer sound system. I thought it was a freaking steal. Within three days the transmission had turned to jelly. Fixing it cost almost three times what the car cost initially, and I was in a very similar financial situation as you sound like you're in.
All that to say that I vote you save your dough and buy a good, solid car. Anything's going to have *SOME* problem, but I think the more research and the longer you wait, the more likely you are to find something you can truly love (as opposed to a stupid car that you begin to truly hate >.<). Good luck on whatever you end up getting!
