Thanks Icemark.
Yes, I think it is worth the time and money to put in a manual tranny. The autos take away half the fun of driving a car, especially a sports car. They also reduce the power sent to the wheels and reduce your gas milage. Plus, I think the ones on rx-7s were particularly bad. I'm not sure, but I dont think much if any bodywork is requred since the shifter in the auto is on the floor. I'm sure theres writups about this around, I'm jsut not sure where.

actually, if you can get it geared lower and spend the rest of the money on a TII conversion... I've seen some pretty ripe TII autos roll in my day. Personally I'd go with the manual tranny but the one bad thing is going to be the clutch and pedal install... Damn that's gonna be some time and money

I dont think the a-spec autos can hold up to a turbo engine. The j-spec autos were beefed up to handle the extra power. And yes I know it can be done. You could also put 400+ hp on a stock clutch, but that doesnt mean it will last. Also, if you gear it lower it will get even shittier gas milage since they're only 4-speeds.

I have what you need for a conversion. Parts are from a 87.

the conversion is fairly easy actually...hardest part is getting the tranny itself in and removing the rusted bolts
