I need help and I'm out of ideas

My 86 will only start up briefly to 3000 rpms then die ONLY If I spray some starting fluid into the butterfly valve. I have checked and replaced my Vac lines, new spark plugs, new fuel injectors, new fuel pump, replace the BAC valve, swapped out several AFM
I'm getting both spark and adequet fuel pressure. so why can't I get an idle?
I only has 186,000 miles on it this is uncommon among rotary's
what else can I check? any ideas?

your problem is it has 186000 miles on it.

Have you done a compression test? With 186k miles, it's quite possible that you've blown a rotor.

Also, have you pulled diagnostic codes from the ECU? If it's a sensor, the ECU is able to tell you what it's unhappy with. http://fc3spro.com/TECH/HOWTO/ERRORC...KI/zerror.html has info/instructions.

First, you are putting the intake tube back on, right? If so, sounds like you aren't getting any fuel. Check to see if the injectors are working. Just because you have pressure doesn't mean that the injectors are pulsing.

I got that when the inlet duct fell off my turbo. I couldn't see it until I took the air filter box out to take a peak down there. In your case I'm assuming you have a non-turbo. One way to check and see if you have a vacuum leak is to have an extra set of hands there to push the flapper of the AFM in just a little bit while you crank the motor. If it starts when your helper pushes it in a little, then that would be a good indicator as to whether you have a big hidden leak or not. Listen carefully to the sound of the motor if/when it starts just to see if anything sounds out of the ordinary.

sounds like what my old N/A did...it was bad fuel pump along with a bad TPS. after i installed a new pump and TPS it was all gravy
