I Need Help Bad!!!

I gave my friend a jump and me being an idiot i jumped him battery to battery. And i think i shorted something out, something serious. I checked my alternator and battery, they were both good. I checked all the fuses or atleast the ones in the 2 fuse boxes, and they are good.
The symptoms are: the car will start but when i first start it it sputters and backfires an the tachometer goes dead. Then it will eventually get to a constent idle but if i turn on the head lights or put it in gear in sputters out.

IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME PLEASE DO

Thanx a bunch

Sounds like it's running out of power? Are you positive alternator/battery good? Did you have your car running while he was turning his over? Years ago, I learned my lesson. I gave a "jump" to a co-worker who's battery in his Mercedes was dead. I had my RPM's high so more current would flow. He started his and drove it home. My trip home presented some problems...Melted a wire inside regulator. Don't have the car running if someone needs assistance.
At least this will get it to the top until the "electrical gurus" wake up.

thats what happened to me. the guy drove home iand i was up a **** creek. Yes the battery is good and yes the altenator was good. And yah i did give it higher rpms for lil while. Your problem sounds pretty similar to mine.

I will never give someone a jump again, if they need a ride somewhere ill do that but never will i ever give them a jump.

In most cases you'll destory your alternator when you give someone a jump. Get a new one and try it out, if it doesn't solve the problem, you might have melted a wire and it will keep grounding out.
