The problem(s) could be many.
Check out the FAQ thread at the top of the forum.

A compression test will tell if its serious.
Does it smoke?

If there is no smoke and the compression is good, look in the FAQs at the top of the section, and do a search for 3,800 RPM hesitation.. It's a common problem, often caused by Grounding, faulty Fuel Filters or leaking/stuck open injectors. It's not too hard to fix, it just takes some time to go through and eliminate all of the possiblities.

Well then, one possibility is that it's rebuild time. How many miles does she have on her?
