AL I just finished my 5-speed swap.

I just finished my 5-speed swap. It really wasn't that bad. I have a '90 vert, and replaced the auto transmission with a 5-speed from an '88.

I ran into a few snags here and there, but overall, it went ok. I think installing the pedal set from a 5-speed was the easiest step, and I thought it would be the most difficult. I was also concerned about making the cross member adaptor, but I just used a piece of 2" x 2" angle steel.

The biggest problem I had was taking out the old auto tranny. I did not remove the torque converter from the flywheel first, and the bell hit the firewall when trying to slide it back. Also, finding someone with a 54mm socket to remove the flywheel was fun too. (May have been the first time I went to Sears in 5 or 6 years)

Once I got the bell off and the flywheel removed, I found that my engine had been recently rebuilt. I'd love to get some more info on when and who, but have called and searched here and there and found nothing.

Wiring was no problem either. One wire from the ignition switch to the starter, and two wires from the engine harness to the tranny for reverse lights. When I shift into reverse, the "R" indicator on my instrument cluster comes on. I thought that was pretty cool. Then only wire question I have is:
There are 4 (two pair) LONG green wires on the manual transmission, and the plugs can connect together. I left them unplugged and zip-tied out of the way, but would like to know what they are for.

I did not replace the rear end, since the gear ratio on the convertible is the same as the 5-speed.

The tutorial I used was from Rotary Resurrection (http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/2n..._5speed.html)- THANKS!

Also, THANKS! to Mike in Mobile, AL for hooking me up with all the parts and knowledge to do this.

I am not a pro by any means, but I did it! So if anyone else is and I can answer a question or two, let me know.

Matt
