i just bought a 89 gtus i need help

i just bought a 89 gtus i need help

im having a few problems first i have an exhaust leak i was wondering weather you guys think i should get it fixed or just wait and get a whole new exhaust i need to pass deq so consider that moreover right below the stick shift the shift boot is all torn up and you can see the ground below my friend told me there should be a heat shield there and there is a lot of heat coming out from that hole smoke even comes out from it so i really want to get that fixed but dont know what part i should get or whats even wrong and lastly the electrical engine light just came on on me and the car acted up a little bit lurching while i pressed the gas for a moment it stopped but the light is still on i have no idea what that is and what should i change on it since it is an old car is has 131000 miles on it thx for any help i get

That is a long sentence.

BUT I can try to help you. You should get the exhaust leak fixed anyways or just go buy a flat out system. A Bonez racepipe or a used quality system can be had for under 200 dollars (from the manifold to the rear cat location).

Then a Corksport cat-back can be had for $289. For $500 bucks you can have a brand new exhaust.

IIRC You shouldn't see the ground from your transmission?

I say bring it to a shop and let them take care of your problems. Corksport is located near you.
