I hope Im not screwed..

Here is the deal. I have an 88 turbo 2 w/44k on a remaned engine. I just tore down the engine over the winter and havnt gotten to drive it yet. I had my dad start the car up and I watched the exhaust. Upon initial cold start the exhuast smokes white for about 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?? It it just extra oil in the combustion chambers or is it something like a blown coolant seal??

Yes, some (very little) smoke on stratup is normal, alot of times it excess fuel or oil from the MOP that is sitting in the engine or exhaust, I have not seen a FC that does not have alittle....

Your fine!, now if your ever driving and it looks like a cloud of fog is chasing after you, then yes, start worrying.

You might not be screwed, but you have quadruple posted. White smoke is pretty common.

I'd say keep driving it like normal and see what happens.

If you ALWAYS get white smoke, you may possibly have a blown coolant seal. If it goes away...probably just **** in the combustion chamber, no biggie. I woudn't think you'd need to worry too much about it on an engine with so few miles.

If it's just a small puff of smoke your good, but if it's a huge plume you might want to look into it. But judging by what you said "2 puffs of smoke" I don't think you have much to worry about. Just drive it around carefully and keep your eye's on the gauges and check you fluid levels for a couple of hundred miles but you should be good.

It's a rotary. This is normal. I've seen brand new (less than 2000 miles) Rx-8 smoke ever so slightly at start-up. It's just the crazy world of wankel that we live in. get use to it.

im getting that right now...always seems like a cloud of smoke if following me whenever i start the car and drive it. i let it idle for a bit but need to idle it long to not have the smoke trail. coolant seal? oil seal? besides that, once its warmed up, still runs strong. 86 gxl.
