You'll want to get a temprature switch from a hardware store. The way I've seen it done, you have a relay from an aux power source going to the temp switch. Then between the fan and the switch, another relay from the A/C fan ( if you have an A/C ). I'll look into it further once I get my Engine together; as I bought a fiero fan myself.

This mod, at least for the fiero electric fan, has been well documented in the forum. I'd give you a link but I don't have it handy. Do some more searching.

The fan is only used when there's not enough airflow, i.e. when you're stopped or crawling. An electric fan won't make it run any cooler than a mechanical one. And a cold engine does not equal better performance.

Wire it through a relay like this:

The FSM mentions an electric fan connector. Since I have manual windows and locks, and mirrors, but still have the wiring for all of those, I assume that all FC's, at least 1987 n/a FC's, came max wired. That being the case, why wouldn't you just use the factory e-fan connector?

Because that fan was controlled by a dedicated control box. the wiring might be there, but no fan, no box.

Thanks NZ. I was just reviewing the manual further, and there was also an additional temp sensor in the thermostat housing. That's not there either, so the temp switch is the best way. carparts.com has one, but you have to calibrate it by way of the temp gauge.

i got mine at an auto parts store. its adjustable and gets the job done without any ghetto rigging. the fiero fan needs 4 flat brackets with holes in them to bolt onto a pretty stockish location. mine only took a couple mins to make and it was well worth it. i just like the space the efan clears up, im sure we've heard both arguments about reducing and putting load on the engine, so it probably doesnt need to be said.

mine is wired directly to the battery too. it comes on until the set =point it's not long just about 1/2 hour after i turn the car off i just wired it as the directions that come with the thermo switch it's realy simple but if you use some of the other diagrams it will work also alot of people on here have great wiring. just figure out what is best for you i'd run a thermo to switch that way you can turn it on anytime or let it run on it's own with the thermo switch, for those just incase times. and make sure you do have a good battery and get the extended warranty!

I had mine wired like roy. And it did a number on my battery in a little over a month. I now have it run on a relay like NZ posted just minus the thermo switch. So mine runs whenever the key is turned to the on position. This is not recommended for daily driving or winter conditions, due to the added wear on the E-fan and the decrease in warm-up time in the winter (possible freezing too). But for my "just for fun" car it works just fine.

Man you are in FL, wire it so that the fan is ON at all times (when key is on). As far as mounting the fan to the radiator, you need to use your imagination!

I use a relay with an on/off switch in the center console with a 30A fuse, I am in texas so it HAS to be on when the car is on, since you are in florida, you should consider doing the same

I keep having to say this! The fan is only there for when there's not enough airflow from forward movement to provide sufficient cooling! There is absolutely no need to run an electric fan all the time, even in Florida. All you're doing is stressing the electrical system. You're not increasing the cooling because at speed the air being pushed through the radiator is far more than the fan can move. Any power gain from removing the mechanical fan is also lost because of the extra load the alternator is placing on the engine.

Well I am getting a free fiero fan for towing a friend of mine's parts car fiero. Now anyone that has used a fiero fan, has it messed up your electrical system at all? How exactly have you wired it? I would want to have it set on a temp thermostat and also a manual override switch. Please let me know what to buy for this. Thanks alot.
