I don't necessarily understand you.

Do you mean that the engine cuts out at 4,000 rpm and does not recover until 3,000 RPM?

I would guess that you have a fault code (is your check engine light on?)

Otherwise, more information will help:

What year is the car?

How much throttle are you giving it?

Does the Check Engine Light come on while running?

Does the Check Engine Light come on with only the ky on, engine not running?

Your second post makes no more sense than the first one. If you push the gas pedal to the floor, it makes it to 4k RPM, then stumbles and tries to die until it catches itself by about 3k RPM?

Maybe your secondary fuel injectors are unplugged/have corroded connectors? 3.8k RPM is where primary injectors have their duty cycle cut in half, and the secondaries come on. If they don't work, you basically will get a fuel cut at 3.8k.

It could just be a seriously plugged cat too I guess. Although that usually feels like the car has no power at high RPMs, but doesn't cause it to almost stall.

You took it 'down' to 6....what??

You need to be way more specific and start using actual numbers or adding the k to signify thousand.
