i was wondering if my version is designed to be more of a luxury version or a sportier GT type version but i know that they had the T2 for that so what is my version meant for (87 GXL)

Sir, I believe you have a case of Did Not Read This Extremely Helpful and Obviously Placed Thread-itis.

Reading the Specifications (What Did My Car Come With?) thread will tell you that the GXL is top-of-the line for trim, sharing many features of the Turbo version, but also having such things as Auto-Adjusting Suspension and adjustable headrests.

i recently picked up a really low mileage 87 gxl, compared to my 1990 BMW e30, the rx7 is quieter, smoother, better handling... the FC really makes the BMW feel like a bus with leather glued to the inside

In factory trim, I believe the GXL even equipped with only the velour is more than enough luxury for most people.
