i have a 1 of 1 carbon fiber hood.... check it out

hey everyone! i just wanted to show you all my new hood....... at the moment it is the ONLY one in existence........ i have a 1 of 1 hood........ i got sponsored my gtp motorsports (a.k.a importfan.com).... and pretty much gave me this hood as long as i make an effort to show it to everyone........ they will make this hood to order.... no mass producing

its full carbon fiber..... (i think its a repro of the old r.e. amimeya hood... but not sure).... the main difference is the back of the hood has a flare which is vented (so no more ugly hood spacers...woohoo)..... i also got the carbon fiber cooling panel...... gorgeous.... you can see your reflection in it...... its polished very nicely!

tell me what you think.

What happens when it rains and all of that water gets dumped onto your alternator?

rxseven07 01-09-05 02:10 PM

dude that hood is hawt! i want to get one for my first gen so bad i can taste it

rhscare 01-09-05 02:13 PM

Wholly crap finnaly!!! Thats exactly what Ive been looking for. Its not an Amemiya hood, its a replica of the Knightsport hood which I really wanted, but didnt want to drop $1,250. I am pretty sure I will be getting one of these.

the FD guys with the Scoot hood usually tape cardboard on the bottom under the vents. or plastic bags.

devdog1one 01-09-05 02:14 PM

????

Probably the same thing as when he washes his engine bay.

The hood looks awesome. I am looking at a way to vent my engine bay as well. I have entered a group buy on the other forum for a RE reverse vent. I will also add a vent above the turbo to help keep temps down.

Michael

That sounds so cheap and ghetto, but what else can you do right? Heh.

vipers 01-09-05 02:20 PM

oh the prices we pay to look good...... lol...... well, it very seldom rains in socal..... and i dont drive it in the rain (cant, i dont have windshield wipers)..... so that was nevr an issue

rxseven07 01-09-05 02:23 PM

vipers, dont u have the orange fc that EVERYBODY hates on in this board? i think its bad ass. i just wish we could see a first gen complete like yours... maybe one day.

diablone 01-09-05 02:25 PM

Actually, most of the hoods come with rain blockers built to fit exactly inside the vents.

That sounds much better.

nothing, except it gets oxidized faster

F1blueRx7 01-09-05 03:57 PM

Doesn't seem practical as a daily driven car to me. I'm sure it's great for track/show/garage etc...

lol...yup.... thats the one........ they mostly hate the graghics..... but they are coming off soon...... i just purchased the gp sport g-four kit (its a knock off, but looks exactly the same).... when it arrives in february im repainting the car(orange of coarse). the wheels will be gunmetal and there is gonna be a very subtle blue and black( vinyl that resembles carbon fiber) stripe going down the side of it.... thats it..... no crazy vinyl car anymore.... im sure that will make alot of people happy. lol (like i care ;) :bigthumb: )

p.s...... thanx for the support!

rxseven07 01-09-05 05:05 PM

vipers what u should do is paint it wrx blue.. and get some bronze wheels with a big ass deep dish style rim, i think that would set the carbon fiber setup off! thats what i would do if i had ur car...

MrSparkle 01-09-05 06:09 PM

that's a nice hood... i might have to come over and take a look. does it work with the stock topmount?

vipers 01-09-05 06:17 PM

uuuummmmm......... well.......... uuummm...... sortof...... the hood covers the top mount, and i did notice a decreace in power.... also my car runs a smidge hotter than before..... but i do have a front mount on the car right now, waiting for the mandrel bent piping... so again.... not a big issue for me.

run_rabbit_run 01-09-05 06:19 PM

um. isn't that the reason it is the middle vent is offset? or is it offset in the opposite direction.

the hood is a little flashy for my liking...i want a panspeed vented look-alike.

MrSparkle 01-09-05 07:46 PM

it's a little flashy for me too, but i have to admit it looks pretty sweet.

rhscare 01-09-05 07:49 PM

These are MEANT for someone running a FMIC or maybe even an NA. The whole point is for heat to be allowed to escape from the engine bay as opposed to letting cool air in to hit the TMIC. I dont think it would be the best idea to put this over a TMIC and cut of the cool air coming in.

But hey, it looks fantastic either way!!! :)

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 01-09-05 07:51 PM

Nice looks like a remake of the old knightsports hood.

Bigretardhead 01-09-05 08:14 PM

would that work for a V-mount? how far forward is the main vent?

91mazdarx7 01-09-05 08:27 PM

damn that hood is great i want to buy that hood are they selling them now or not yet i want one i been wanting a cf knightsports replica hood for a while now can i ask why didnt they carbon fiber the vent into the hood instead of being rivited on

Ricer240sx 01-09-05 08:31 PM

bleeehhhh!! i think its discusting!!! i do like the lip at the back though, i need to vent out the engine bay, but i got an idea for that ;)

vipers 01-09-05 09:27 PM

they are selling them now, but i think its pay then make sorta thing.... i think when they get the money, they make it..... but not sure...... and not sure why the main scoop wasnt flush mounted, but it grew on me.... youd have to see this hood in person, its gorgeous!!

if your interested in the hood and want more details, call victor at gtp motorsports @ 1-949-475-2184

well, i really dont understand that one either... why offset the hood if your top mount is no longer functional??? i think it should have been centered.... but it still looks great anyways!

RE-Renegade 01-09-05 10:59 PM

damn thats a really nice looking hood, perfect replacement for my steel one. price isnt to bad either.

hypothermix79 01-09-05 11:05 PM

looks alot like the knight sports hood

RXciting 01-09-05 11:25 PM

Wow nice hood. almost wanna get 1 at that price too..

but other things are on my priority list right now

maybe it was designed like that so you can turn the scoop around... or replace it, so that you can still use the stock TMIC....
like the knight sports hood.... :)

rhscare 01-11-05 02:48 AM

Well I feel dumb. I've been looking at that hood for months and never even realized you could just turn it around. Everyone rips on the rivits showing and there you go lol. Wow. Its just one of those moments.

jacobcartmill 01-11-05 02:55 AM

too aggressive

F1blueRx7 01-11-05 08:14 AM

I'd like the hood if it had the stock scoop with the side vents. Like the knight sports hood.

I'm getting that hood. Any fitment problems?

Forcus 01-11-05 08:38 AM

Re: Water pouring on your alternator. Just make a little rain hat, a half moon shaped metal piece that goes over the alternator (spaced out maybe a half inch to allow air to flow through). It will deflect any rain down and around. It may sit on your engine block but shouldn't interfere with anything.

Re: Offset hood scoop. You are right, it's not meant for a TMIC and an offset scoop is unnecessary. My guess (guess!) is they pulled a mold off a stock TII hood and added the side vents.

In any case it is a little flashy for me BUT it is functional and I always like seeing a decently priced new product for the FC.

Drag'nGT 01-11-05 08:46 AM

Viper, could you get some better (larger) pics of the hood for us? I'd like to know how close the hood gets to the edges of the fenders, hood and windshield. I understand that you're sponsored by them but if I'm spending $600-700 on a hood I want to inspect it as much as possible. Also, does the hood latch well or do you need hood pins?

thanks

jon88se 01-11-05 09:29 AM

Check out this link...this guy made rain guards that clip in and out for his knight sports FD hood. They look like some kind of plexi...I bet you could even go a step further than he did and get some kind of thin rubber seal on the outer edge.

http://www.negative-camber.org/crispyrx7/extras.htm

doridori-rx7 01-11-05 10:20 AM

that would be a great if if they have placed the large center vent 5" towards the front of the car that way it would be practical in that it would be the perfect egress vent for a V mount.. as it is, the way high press air shapes around the front of a car the vent may even end up drawing air into the engine bay.. which would create a static pressure area in the engine bay=more heat.. the only way to know forsure is if someone has a nastran, ansys.. ect. flow model of the FC ? anyone.

maybe I'm being anal about a hood but if it's going to cost close to $1000 by the time it lands on my door door step then I'd like it to add to my performance not subtract.. either way nice to see that someones stepping up to make a hood like that, kudos to them.

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 01-11-05 10:49 AM

Oh shit thats sick, I didnt know u could do that with that old Knightsports hood.

rotaryracer1 01-11-05 02:45 PM

so is that your car in the with the hood on it on the importfan website?or someone elses car? lets see whole car pics not just the hood. and yes that hood is awesome

Drag'nGT 01-12-05 08:08 AM

Yeah. I think that's his car. Atleast from what I can see. I would still like some good pics of how good of a fit it has.

YearsOfDecay 01-13-05 10:08 PM

I get one if it wasn't for the gay riveted center section.... that looks like retarded ass

philiptompkins 01-13-05 11:13 PM

I like riveted look but with more chrome, you need some bling bling on the scoop

speeddemon32 01-14-05 11:51 AM

well are you sure you can't just turn the same one around? it wouldn't look the same as in the knightsports one, but it may still work.... or have you tried it already?
