I got a new toy today... cleaning it?
I'm slowly starting to collect my TII engine peice by peice. Not that it matters too much but... Is there anything I should do to my turbo while its just sitting here? I would like to clean it up some or something. Any mods or anything I can do?

Port the wastegate for starters, and clean that bitch up. The exterior condition is terrible, I'd powdercoat the pieces personally. Check for shaft play, it should only move about a mm or so, any more and you'll want to do a rebuild.
Man looking at yours, Mine looks like brand spankin new, and I still want to get it all powdercoated and such

Yeah it does look like **** but its spins freely and there isnt any shaft play. I'm thinking I will take the good ol' dremel to it and polish up the exterior.

ever seen a hot side after boosting? gets a beautiful orange glow about it, almost as though it was naturally producing it...
you should be using the heat shield so who cares what the turbo looks like since you can't see it anyways. those of you who toss the tins for it so you can gaze upon the turbo, look up the term 'heat soak'.
personally, i'd just clean up the cold side with some solvent, port the turbo intake runners and port the wastegate and call it a day.
