I got my car weighed today...

Stock 1988 10th AE
gutted cat/precat
s5 motor/s4 externals (hybrid, kinda )
airpump is on car still
basically bone stock
FULL tank of gas

2890LB... Does this seem a little heavy to you? I find it had to believe that it's heavier than my fully loaded 4 door sedan.. and by 200LB!

Yeah, how much gas did you have in it? Cuz even 5 gallons of gas has a noticable weight.

1L of water is equal to 1KG. 2.2lbs/1kg. Gas weighs less than water, how much less I don't know.

When the FC was new and the car mags weighed it, how much gas would they have in it? I would have assumed a full tank.

I think off the production line they weighed cars with no fuel in them. Its all a marketing scheem. If you were selling a brand new rx-7 back in '88 lets say, would you want to target the public with a fast light car or a heavy sluggish car?

That sound pretty good to me,....I've read in several places that the weight is a little over 3000lbs! I third gen which is lighter, ( the touring model) weighs in at 2850 lbs....so I'd be really happy with the weight you got!

You're looking at about a hundred pounds for a full tank.

the gas station that smogged my car weighed it for me...i think they weighed the front half and then the back half seperately and with the mechanic in it too and then added the numbers. i have no idea how the hell they expect to get a reasonable number with stuff like that but according to them my gtu weighs over 3400 lbs...uh huh sure sure whatever, retards.

how much does a gallon of gas weigh? i thought a full tank of gas in an FC (is it 16.8 or 18.6 gallons) weighed like 120 lbs or so.

it's a 10AE, they had a lot of options, so if anything that weight is lower than I would have expected.
Hey, where do all of you guys get your cars weighed? I'm curious about what mine weighs. Do they have scales at drag strips or something?

100LL gas weighs in at around 6 pounds per gallon. I am sure auto gas is about the same.

James

Where did you take you car to get weighed? Any cost?

full tank is 16.6 gallons, from what i heard a full tank is exactly 100lbs

i sold my old 86 base, but the last time i took it to the scale, it weighed in at 2400lbs exactly with 12 gallons of gas, about 3/4 tank, without me in it, had a full interior, no p/s, all the a/c components were removed, the air pump was gone, and it had a full exhaust with 16" wheels

havent weighed my GXL yet, time to get to the weigh yard
