I found a 10th anniversary "I think"
Ok guys I am brand new here, "Must say this site is awsome" I just registered last night after driving thru the country with my wife and finding a 1988 RX-7, I love sports cars so I did a U-turn to look at it, I believe after finding lots of information from here last night that it is an original anniversary addition, has the corect badges, steering wheel, wheels, spoiler, and a uc for the paint code, Now the questions, I was told it would start and then die after about 15 seconds, I will be totally honest I know nothing about these cars and engines, Dont make fun of me but I am a mustang guy, I own a 86 svo with the turbo engine and thought this car would look real nice next to it in the garage, Do any of you guys know what I should try first on the engine, Also It is going to need seats and a shifter, are these hard to find or does somebody know if they make reprodution parts for these cars, The car I am looking at has been hit in the passengers fender so I will have to fix that, I will also need another wheel, can anybody help me there. Sorry for making this so long but any help would be greatly appriciated, I can do the work just need to know where to start. I think I will make a few of you jealous when I tell you he only want $400 for the car I think that is a good deal from what I have seen on this site. Once agian great site and thinks in advance.

Sounds like the fuel lines are possibly backwards. I believe some people were having their cars start up and die 5-15 seconds later with that issue. First things first, do a compression test.

Compression test of course, then check the AFM door to make sure it's not stuck or the connector isn't broken off or anything like that, then move onto filters, and so forth.

Should be at MINIMUM 90PSI. If either rotor is below about 80psi, its goign to have problems soon if it doesn't allready.
If the compression is good, then .. I dunno.
The shift boot is about $50 at mazda dealerships, and get the seats redone professionally, shouldn't cost you more than $300.

sweet man, I love the fox and 302, but the SVO has a special place in my heart
like above said first things first is get compression check. If compression is good, and the price is right I say go for it.

Buy the car!If not tell me were I can find it.anyway I lucked up on mine the guy whom had my 10th had done a lot to it before I bought it. one including putting on a fuel bleed valve from mazdaspeed.It was to help with the flooding problem.when I bought the car it was at a mazda dealer in TX.They told me that the engine was shot.when I got the car to TN.To make a long story short after cracking it several times it done the same thing.after taking the fuel valve off started right up.never had a problem since.see if it has one on it.might not be the problem but you never know.

Hey guys thanks alot for the info, I wont be able to get the car until thursday. I just found out it has a problem with the title though, I am trying to find the guy who owned it before but having trouble. If I do get it I will try what you guys told me and go from there. Once agian thanks and I will keep you informed.

Well I just got it home, I have not done any of the things you guys said but will try them now, first I will do a compression check and from there on will try the other things, I have some pics but they are to big so if anybody can shrink them down I will send them out. I cant wait to get this car running and then start finding parts to put it back to origanal shape, first thing is to get a title, I just found the last owners phone # so I am going to try to call him tonight. Well I have to go play with my new toy now so talk to you all later.

Hello all, got the car running now just need to do a tune up and check compression, Can anyone help me with pics, I have several but to large for me to post and I cant shrink them.

One of my roommates in college had an SVO, which I belive was an 85 model. I liked the car a lot, but that little 4-banger had a really difficult time pushing a full-size car until the boost kicked in, which you will find is not a problem with your new RX-7. I remember that his tires cost a fortune because they were a very rare low-profile size when the car was first produced. I had $60/ea Bridgestones stockers on my 88 RX-7.
$400 + $2,200 for an engine rebuild = a really nice $2,600 car with an engine that will last at least another 100,000 miles.
Momo can solve the seat and shifter problem.
Mazda states the base compression value at 85 psi, with no more than 21 psi between any of the chambers. See the service manual for cranking speed and altitude corrections to the compression test.
