Exclamation I found 1 OF 100!! Should I buy it??

Well I found a BLACK 1990 GTUs For sale locally. It needs a rebuild. And the previous owner has removed the OEM wheels and shoved on a set of steel wheels. It appears to be in average shape, needs some small cosmetic cleanups and of course the engine rebuild. I can probably pick it up cheap. I was just wondering if it was worth picking up.. What would you pay?? It is complete minus the wheels and the radio. It comes with another engine but the condition is unknown.

really? there were only ever 100 Black GTUs's?
If it's that rare, it's probably worth restoring.

I would get it if the price is right, for the cars sake anyway, it looks like its destiny is just sit and age.

Probably not.. There is a huge difference between a 90's GTU and a 90 GTUs...

A GTU is a s5 base model

A GTUs is a NON turbo car with S4 turbo HP levels.....

It's hard to make a value judgement based on the pics posted. However I'd value that non-running car at maybe 1500-1700 here in Texas although prices may differ in the local area.

The best parts of that car are the larger brakes, 4.30 gear ratios and the lightweight wheels. The wheels are gone, and it needs a rebuild so rare or not it's still incomplete. All in all an 10AE is still more of a collectors item than a GTUs despite their rarity.

FWIW - I'm a cheapskate.. .I'd probably manage to get the car for about $500 bucks.

I am looking from a restorative standpoint.. If I could revive it and turn a profit, then it is worth doing to me.. I could get it back on the road and looking like new for approximately $2500. Including the purchase price..

If I could sell it for around $3500-$4000 then it would be worth my time... I sold a well presereved 1991 coupe earlier this year with lots of mods for $4000...

I have become bored with parting cars out, and would much rather restore them, and put them back on the road..

I'll figure that you'll probably look at it, port the TB, then part it.

i wouldnt hesitate on it if the price were right for the condition. i would give in upwards of $700 for a GTUs in that condition. i personally am more interested in getting 7's back on the road rather than parting them. its too bad that some are too far gone though... makes you think that at one time the car you are parting belonged to someone who cared for the car very much, made a lot of payments on the beast, and that the car was the highlight of someone's driveway!

I would pay 300 for it. It might be somewhat rare to you, but it is a base model without a running motor that most likely needs a rebuild like you said. Plus the wheels are hideous. Where I live, there are automatic rx-7s that run and sell for around 200.

Parting kills the car though .... If you part that out, then scrap it ... Then you don't deserve to ever touch an rx7 again.

LOL... Nah, I have only sold a few that I haven't almost completely redone.. I sold a T2, an Automatic 1991, and a slew of 1st gen's that weren't worth my time..

I am really looking at buying/restoring these cars. I have been buying them for 13 years and always seem to be buying them as my own, they never quite hit the spot.. I think that I enjoy working on them more then owning them. So if I can turn my hobby into side money then I might start doing that..

In the last year I have bought and sold 4 Rx-7's.

1988 Rx-7 Vert- mostly restored it all it needed was paint when it sold
1991 coupe- complete overhaul, looked new when I sold it
1991 coupe AT- came as a parts car, got it running, and sold to a friend

1988 T2 (still have)- needs everything.
