I Finaly got the keys!!

i bought my first RX7 about a week ago and its been at the seller's place the whole time (i've been really busy) but tonight i finaly got it and took my first (real) drive.

its a red '88 GXL with 99k miles and a few little dings.

THIS FC IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN MY HONDA AND NOW I KNOW WHY!

it handles like a Formula 1 car compaired to my accord.

i havn't noticed too much difference between "normal" and "sport" modes but whatever.

also the trasmision is really clunky (future problem?)

anyway, its a blast to drive and im glad to finaly be apart of the family =D

PS. This fourm is the best fourm i have ever visited, you guys are so helpful, thanks a ton

The reason you may not notice teh difference between teh modes is that the suspension components may be 20 years old an dno longer functioning properly, its generally cheaper to just toss the Auto-adjusting suspension system and put in a good set of tokico's or similar manually adjustable suspension for a better feel.

If you could help us by defining the 'clunky' of yoru trans we may be able to help.

But congratulations on stepping up from a honda into a real car, and welcome to the club.

well the shiter is very loose. i have trouble quickly selecting gears. For example i'll try to upshift from 2nd to 3rd and it will basicly stop in Nutral as if it were stuck in the guid plate or something, then when i try to jiggle it into gear i sometimes end up in first.... when i want to be in third...

im thinking it the shifter bushings (im not really sure, im not exactly and expert lol)

Hmmm that problem doesn indeed seem to be the bushings. Pull teh plastic trim off carefullly, thoughonce youve unscrewed the shift **** off of course. now once teh trim is off, check for the protective rubber boots. If they are present proceed to pull them up. there should be a steel plate that holds the shifter in place, its bolted in with 3 10mm bolts. this plate should also have a prtoective boot that is a pita to get off from around the shifter itself. If this boot is missing, or the other two rubber boots, its time to go to mazda and order up a set, as well as a pair of new bushings. Its a rather simple job that can take 3o minutes at most if you have to do a lot of cleaning while your at it. And also, while you are ther go ahead and refill the shifter area with fresh gear oil, helps with shifting.

I hope this lil tidbit of info helps any.
