i effed up I think

So i changed the oil in the FC today, its 13b NA 86. i used castrol GTX 10w30 and a fram filter, then i changed the spark plugs with some NGK ones from schucks. it said 2 per car from the computer there but i bought 4 replaced them but now my car drives weird, I think its misfiring. Also the NGK ones werent the exact same as the ones that were already in the car. So what do you think went wrong? wrong plugs? put the wires in wrong? BTW I was being stupid and pulled all the wires off the plugs and then put them back on and was guessing since i read the coils saying T1.T2. L1.L2 so i figure just put them in where the Letters correspond. So yeah any help would be cool. I don't want to take my Ae86 into work and worry about it bein stolen .

The last time i bought plugs from schucks for my 7 they gave me all four wrong plugs. you may want to check the plugs vs. your old ones. the NGK plugs should have a T and L marked on them. I don't know that having the leading/trailing plugs mixed up would make a difference but having the wires mixed up will. Just make sure that the T1 goes to the top hole on the front housing and the L1 on the lower front and the same goes for the rear. (T)railing = (T)op and (L)eading = (L)ower. Hope it helps.

all my old spark plugs all had a T on them and now they all have a L. They both look the same to the eye tho, thanks for the info on the wires and what not.

OH and thanks for schooling me on what the L and T meant. I have no idea how rotaries work.

you want two trailings on top and two leading on bottom. the plugs have a little t or L to tell you which ones. They are br7eq and br9eq. 2 of each.

Exchange 2 leading plugs for 2 trailing plugs. Leading in the bottom trailing in the top. Coils at the front of car are leading and coils by the firewall are trailing. You have L1 L2 T1 T2, L1 is lower front L2 is lower rear T1 is upper front and T2 is upper rear.

never go to those idiots again and I hope you bitch them out when you go.

You're supposed to get (2) BURQ7 and (2) BURQ9

L1 goes to the lower hole in the first (front) rotor
L2 goes to the Lower hole in the second (rear) rotor

I'm sure you can figure our the T's

I have used all trailing and all leading plugs in my engine before with no issues. Its just the heat range of the plug that changes.

I bet its something else causing the issue besides your plugs.

Next time, if the electrode is not warn bad and only rounded a bit on the tops, just clean them with a wire wheel.

Most guys at AutoZone, NAPA, O'Reilly's, etc. look at the computer weird when looking for plugs. Best just to research first so you can tell them what they are looking for. Hopefully it's just the plugs.

dont buy plugs for the rotary at autozone, they will try and charge you like $30.00 PER PLUG for a DENSO IRIDUM or something of that sort. Just stick with NGK copper resistor plugs and you will be find.

Ok..here's What you Did.you Put the Spark plug wires On Wrong....SOLUTION: put the Plug wires From the Leading Coil to the LOWER Spark Plugs. It Does NOT matter Whcih Plug. They Fire at the Same Time..now the Trailing Coil Plug Wires(the Coil that is by the Brake booster).Put the One Closest to the Front of the Car to the TOP Plug that is closest to the Radiator(that would be T1..or trailing Plug One..Rotor One)..the Other Plug wire Obviously Goes to the last spark Plug at the top REAR(that would be T2. trailing plug 2..#2 or Rear rotor). Now the car should Operate Just fine UNTIL you get the Proper Plugs..ask for NGK..B-U-R-7-E-Q and B-U-R-9-E-Q.(the Platinum plugs cost about a dollar or two more..Same Numbers only there is a "P" at the end of the Part Number(bur7eqp,bur9eqp)...See if you can take a SET of Plugs Back.to the Parts store that you Got them From..Tell them "Straight up " that they FUCKED UP...and ask them If they have a "habit ' of Selling the Wrong parts to People...pour it on,and also say that they should Know Auto Parts as they Work in a store that sells them.,and that the Car Could have "suffered severe Engine Damage" as a result of Them Giving you the WRONG PART!..(not the case,But they should give you a set of the "other Plugs required!)..good Luck..if you Need anything, just Pm me..I'll be glad to help ya..STYX.

Yeah AutoZone doesn't carry the plugs for the FC, I know because I own an FC and I work there LOL. When getting parts for your FC, always do research on what you need before you go in. I had to go to Advanced Auto(Schucks, Kragen, etc) to get my plugs and they are just clueless. Very rarely do you get any auto parts representative who knows anything about RX-7's or rotaries in general, and when you do it's usually some bullshit store about how they used to own one and had to have Mazda replace the motor 3 times a year or some stupid **** like that

^word I dont go to autozone for that purpose. yeah the guy i talked to at shucks was clueless as me. I did do some research but in the wrong areas. thanks again for the input too. but i moved the wires a around and one of them snapped, i guess it was time for them to be replaced also. Is their anything wrong with using the schucks brand of wires? Borg i believe? or is their a brand I should go find more?

On another note turns out all my sparkplugs were platinum tipped tooo! haha

For the money, I would go with either Duralast or Bosch wires from AutoZone, only for the fact they have lifetime warranties, meaning whenever it's time to do the wires again, just take them back in and they hand you a brand new set free
