i did a sweet drift today!!

i am finally getting used to taking my FC to the limits now.

today was awesome! I was driving through a neighborhood that I always go through after school and I decided to take one of my favorite turns really fast.

It isnt quite a 90 degree turn but its still sharp. anyway there is still some sand on the streets so that is what let me slide.

i made sure there werent any cars before i did this.

i had the car in second, floored it right when i got into the turn and w/ the sand and all the back end stepped out. I had the car in perfect control and it was AWESOME!!!!

i even managed to get the "low wiper fluid" light to flash on b/c I was pushing the car to its limits!

I CANT WAIT TO TAKE THE SCCA DRIVING SCHOOL THIS SUMMER!!

Thats not a drift. Thats a powerslide...

Drifting is entering the turn sideways, and making the whole turn with little to no traction on the rear wheels...

Ya might wanna wait til after SCCA driving school before trying that again...although really fun i once wrapped a car around a pole doing the exact same thing. Remember the road controls you you don't control the road.

not to be cynical, but i see a disturbing trend of people trying to " drive their cars to the limits, which should be done on an auto-x track..

About 4 months ago I turned my rx7 into a fortune cookie by doing upwards to 135km/h in a residential area, and then seeing a moving truck blocking both lanes a little too late, ended up taking the rx7 into a cement coner and hitting my drivers door into about the middle console. I was fine, I got out right away, but Ill always remember the accident my cell phone screen is smashed so everytime i answer my phone i remember how stupid it was to go 135 in a residential area.

I used to do that too, never satisfied me until I really started drifting. And now I am addicted to it.

I would go find me a huge parking lot whenever I have time. Make sure it's all flat with no bumps and start drifting. Very easy on the FC.
Going about 5000 RPM in 3rd, brake, heel-toe into second, turn steering wheel (rear will break loose), counter steer and apply throttle to modulate. If I wanted to spin more, apply more throttle. If I wanted to stop the drift, just countersteer again and let off the gas.
The real fun part is when I do swaying drifts(tail goes left and right for a couple of times). In the middle of a drift, brake and countersteer, apply throttle. This will snap the rear into the opposite side.

Have fun.

Um, I hope you have $800 to spend on the required drivers safety equipment (helmet, fire suit, gloves, shoes, socks, etc..) as well as $1000 or more for a rollcage installation, $50 for a fire extinguisher, and might want to spend a couple bucks ($300 or so?) and buy yourself a fuel cell while you're at it. Racing isn't cheap.

It's one of those things they just don't understand until they actually drive in a closed environment.

There are WAY too many unknown variables on public roads to screw around. I don't care what people think appears to be safe, if it's not on a track, then it's not safe.

I doubt seriously they show you how to power slide or drift in your school. They want to show the proper line and driving technique. Having the rear of your car hang out is not the fast way around the track even if it is entertaining.

dirt tracking

you wanna drift? Take your car to a dirt track. Don't do it in a neighborhood with lots of kids and ****. The risk isn't worth it. I have drivin on dirt tracks most of my life, and got to know alot of the guys real well. Even though it gets your car REALY dirty, it can allways wash off. I wouldn't neccicarily push your car to the limits on a dirt track, but it's just fun to mess arround on.

i am very glad to see so many ppl actually respect the road and driving environments.

to 787b i say this

you are not just taking your own life in your hands, you put us all at risk by hot rodding on public streets. think of it like this. you are piloting a 2600 to 2800 pound weight at great speed. that much weight doesnt like to change direction especially above 30 mph. which is the normal posted speed limit in a residential area. so lets say little 5 yr old sally is riding her brand new bicycle she got for her birthday last week and you come sliding around a corner. what are you gonna do? sure, cars are easy to see, but kids behind parked cars are not. you never know when you might be forced to dump your car in a ditch playing around in neighborhoods, or worse not have the ability to dump it.

parking lots are great. autocross is great as well. i utilize these tools on a regular basis. but i DONT decide to take someone elses life into my own hands by being stupid. i see that you are in school. which probably means you havent been driving more than 2 years. your skill cant be that high especially if you have never pursued motorsports of any kind before. i admire your pursuit of driving excellence, i think we all do, but ****.... do you have to do it in front of sallys house?

ultimetly, poeple have to make their own choices. just dont make a stupid one, for you or for some one else.

Drift = Loss of control if even just the road surface changes

Drift = slower around the corner

Line = quicker
-------------------------------------

Drift on public road = kill people

Drift on public road = Crash your car

Drift on public road = The dead kid's daddy kills you, if you're lucky
-------------------------------------

I've seen a dead 8 year old girl on a sidewalk, have you, you public road drifters?

Did I make it simple enough for your brain?

yeah, residental area = bad idea, if you wanna push your car to its limits thats fine, just make sure its only your own life you're risking.

We were all stupid kids at one time, hell I rolled my my mom's 85 GSL-SE @ 100mph because I was horsing around on a greasy road. I think what we're all trying to say is learn from us and not your own mistakes, its much cheaper

Happy drifting in that industrial lot down the street in your town

Um, what the **** does that mean? Drifting is not rice, it's getting to know how your car works and what it's limits are so that you can handle it better. True, never do it on public roads, I agree with that, very bad idea. Drifting is not rice though, don't know where you got that. In fact I'd like to hear your definition of rice.

*sigh* must i come a make everything clear?if you say drifting is rice you have to be the dumbest **** ever. how about drag is corn? corn fed bitch. anyway dude that was 1) not a drift 2) nothign to do with your skills 3) very very dumb. now drifting in public i do all the time but AFTER midnight! unless i'm in the woods (best place to drift even with all the trees) or industrial park (we have a mini circuit!) but still not before 10:00! so really get soem ***** and drift forreal. i i suggest going to a industrial park and make a little track around the buldings. thats how everyone learns. and don't try to maek your self drift. try going faster and faster and learn how much you can hold till you stop driping and start sliding. then you learn what angles/speeds your car can take. do that for a month or to THEN start to drift. you don't need to take turns faster but learn techneques. clutch kick (better buy a good one) is what i use with the feint drift. and do not do chokudori in public! thats about it. but i really don't think you should be a drifter. stick to grip its faster and cheaper plus your car wont look liek crap (trust it will). and **** drag!!!!! and auto x! slow crap
