I am thinkning of buying an rx7 need some advise

Hey all my name is Joel and I am thinking of buying an 86 rx7 gxl for and autocross car. This car has a fresh motor 1500-2000 miles. It needs a clutch and radiator. Is 2000 a good deal?. I also wanted to know how you guys think this car would do in autocross? And I was wondering if you guys could tell me where is the best place to find parts. Is there anything I should know special about these cars.ie...any common problems.

well thanks for the space.

Joel

Hi Joel , that sounds like a pretty good deal, maybe try to get it for $1500 cause I'm not sure how much the rad will be worth. As for autocross I'm acually thinking of starting with mine this year, Im sure other guys on here do to. Common problems are the ever so popular 3800 RPM hesitation, but you shouldn't have a problem with your new engine, it's usually easy enough to fix anyway.
Other things are usually just bad interior switches, wipers and headlight. Other than that check the faq section.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Do a compression test just to make sure, although it is a new engine. Some people can rip you off easily. Just a precaution.

But a rebuild kit alone for an 86 is about 700-800 dollars, so you have a good deal thus far. How many miles are on the chassis? And what type of shape is it in?

N/A's make really good cars for daily driving. They can last forever!! 300,000 miles plus I have read.

Good luck. I would offer him about 1600 cash, if you have it.

Cheers,Justin

The car itself has 134k on it. I was thinking 1500 cash for the simple fact that I think the clutch and everything along with it will cost about 500 and the radiator will be cheaper I can probably find one on ebay. He said he got the motor from ADKINS ROTARY has anyone ever heard of them? The interior is in reall good shape it was a arizona and texas car up until this fall when they brought it to ohio. It has never been in a winter. It does have about a quarter sized surface spot of rust on the passengerside kick panel and it needs a good buff and maybe a new clearcoat but for 1500 which I am planning to offer I wont complain.

.

make sure he has the paper work for the motor rebuild... I know A LOT of people out there BS about this when selling their 7. Adkins Rotary is a well known place in our world. As for your question on the adjustable suspension... that's so you can adjust the suspension to soft or stiff. Good luck with buying the car...
