Hybrid turbo users.. post info here.

I just sold my haltech and my aftermarket turbo setup, in favor for a S5 T04B hybrid, which will be running on stock ECU ( Rtek chip) and S-AFC. Im looking to see what others are running as far as power and boost levels on their hybrids. So any information wouldbe great, dyno numbers, boost levels, 1/4 times, etc.. Please post mods list as well. Thanks

Why in the hell did you do THAT??????????? KLnock up the girlfriend and need money?????

Damn Dude... I have a BNR Stage III TO4 hybrid and i really wouldn't want to try and tune the thing without my Haltech.....

I get a steady 15PSI of Boost from second on... 1/4 mile times are a 13.6 best at 114 MPH, but I need better tires cause my 60ft times are dogshit (2.3 sec) cause of wheelspin if I hit more than 8PSI in first gear) Have no idea what HP is... but it breaks 'em loose in 3rd at 15 PSI on these shitty tires!!!! THe car will do 12's, I just have to get better tires and learn how to launch this beast!!

I've got a hybrid turbo of sorts, lol I know sounds weird, I got it under the pretenses that it was stock but when I got it in it had 8 fins instead of 6. Anyways I got the car up and running the other day and boost controller installed on pretty much the same upgrades you are talking about (not tuned, I know bad idea to run it without being tuned) and that sucker pulled!!!!!!! I wasn't pressing the pedal down all the way either because of the not tuned thing but at 15psi it pushed my head back in the seat

Most people run 275-320 out of t04b hybrids with standard mods.

Thanks.. there are a few reasons I did it. One, was because it will be infiniately easier for me to get the car up and running with the stock ECU, as compared to the haltech. The closest place I know I can go and get it dyno-tuned at a place I would trust is at least a 3-4 hour drive. Second, I didnt really need/want the amount of power I was shooting for with the aftermarket turbo. I just reconsidered what I want to use the car for, and I would much rather have a 12 second car that I wont be afraid to drive everywhere, than an 11 second car that I blow up alot Its not for financial reasons at all.. I just think I would be happier with the car this way. Plus I have emissions testing in our area. I know I could pass with the Haltech, but I would like everything to be legit. If I can get 300 rwhp from my hybrid, I will be very happy.

Nice to see someone that actually THINKS about the consequences of their actions before they start blowing things up!!!!!!!

I tuned my car myself with some advice from BDC and the Hitman.. But, I have access to an Autronic Wideband O2 meter.... that helps out a LOT!!!! Also, because of emissions, in the state of Pennsylvania, I'm now limited to 4999 miles a year on my car, since i don't have any!!!!!!

If you get a BNR stage III, you can make 300 RWHP no problem... I would hiughly reccoment a FMIC while you are at it!!!! Just make sure you get that SAFC dialed in...

And Yes....... I HATE my tires.... god i hate them so... but they were brand new when i bought the car, so my cheap-*** just couldn't ditch them cause I plan on gitting a set of 17's over the winter here and i'll get good tires on them and sell the stock rims/tires as a set

Thanks, I already have my hybrid and will begin the install shortly. Its about an equivilant to a stage 3 from BNR I would think. If you read my mods list, I do have a FMIC, as well as a brand new large SP engine, etc... Just looking for what I can expect from this turbo with good tuning. I would be more than happy with mid 12 second time-slips

This is my turbo after we installed it we couldn't get it to boost more than 5 psi. Unfortunatally it only ran a couple of days before I got low compression on rear rotor.

Kevin, Ill be contacting you as soon as I pull the engine out. I got 85,85,85 on front and 65,65,65 on rear. I double checked my compression tester on my GXL you built for me, that sucker is pushing 115 0n both rotors.

T04B V-trim hybrid...

I got full boost (10psi) @ 3200rpm from 3rd gear on (this was on a generous streetport, mind you). If you have enough fuel and proper timing, you could boost this turbo up to 20psi and remain within it's max efficiency island and probably make over 350rwhp on a streetport. If you were to boost past 12psi though, I would have the turbine wheel backcut though. This reduces spoolup time, but should lengthen the life of your turbo.

I would never even think of trying 20PSI on my hybrid. PLus I am going with the stock ECU with Rtek chip, so nothing over ~14psi for me. My streetport is fairly aggressive as well, so spool-up time should be instantaneous

i would not want to even think about having 300whp and running the stock ecu (even if its an rtek)

rtek takes care of the timing, wastegate port takes care of boost creep and spike, and safc/larger injectors/larger fuel pump takes care of fuel control. Get the thing tuned and your fine.

What do you think fc owners did when there were no haltech/wolf/microtechs to pop on? The stock ignition advance is extremely conservative as it is, beyond that the timing can be retarded at the CAS.

ok i'm not an e6k elitist damnit, lol.

and i understand that the timing is conservative, and the fuel can be tuned via AFM SIGNAL (wooptie ****** doo) with an safc. i maxed out my afm signal with my safc on my stock ecu at like 12psi. thats the only beef i have with it.

the other thing i really dont like is you cant really tell whats going on with the engine. i can go to my 'engine data page' and see everything. and i have somewhere under 300whp (270whp maybe) and i love being able to monitor my intake air temps, coolant temps, rpms, injector milliseconds, injector duty cycle, i can DATALOG, i can use my e6k as a turbo timer, i can use it as a water thermo switch to turn on my efan, i can add/subtract fuel based on an o2 signal, i can add/subtract fuel/timing based on a number of variables, i can do alot of stuff... and i can watch it all happen, and datalog it.

I don't believe so, I'm running 12 pounds on a t04b hybrid and I still haven't maxed out the afm, I've seen readings as low as .26 volts however but there is still room left for air to be measured. What happens is the stock 550cc injectors become maxed out. With the ecu reprogrammed for larger injectors, the afm still has plenty of room left to work with.

An upcoming version of the rtek release will be able to datalog the same paramters. Turbotimers are really just fancy gadgets on a water cooled turbo, and I would advise keeping the stock fan if at all possible; why even mess with a thermo switch if you don't need to?

There's no question the e6k is superior to the stock ecu in every shape way and form; I don't however believe it is a requirement for someone who is looking to reach 300rwhp.

^agreed! i would love a haltech microtech etc... but franctly car afford one and don't know of anyone that can tune one for miles (4 hour drive). I think 300hp is still very obtainable with the stock ecu with the right mods.

I didnt want this to turn into a standalone vs. stock ECU debate. I will be the 1st to tell you that you can make more power, and more reliability/drivability for the same mods with a properly installed and tuned standalone. Its not the fact that I cant afford one, in fact I have an E6X sitting right here next to me, but I just feel that for the power level I want to achieve, with the mods I have, the stock ECU and piggybacks will be sufficient, and much easier to deal with.

I did have another question though, does your hybrid's boost drop off in the higher RPM range like the stock turbo does, or does it hold max boost ( ~12-14psi) untill redline?

no they don't! Mine sees whatever boost my boost controller is set to all the way up the rpm range witch right now is 12psi.
