It hurts to own a rx-7 sometimes...

so its been one thing after the other...

to start its a 87 t2 with a s5 jdm motor
new apex seals 2mm
new fuel pump
all new gaskets and oil coolant rings
rats nest deleat
intake
2 1/4 turbo back no cats
and other stuff i just cant really remember because im stressed...

So after pretty much over hauling this thing im getting all excited for it to finish and we go to start it up and it starts to pop and throw smoke and some oil......

take it all apart and check the turbo(supposed to be a new turbo says the PO)
and at like 5-8 psi its spraying oil like crazy... seals are bad in the turbo..
I have looked everywhere to see if i can just pick up some seals and fix them so that i can get my car back until i can buy a new turbo..

No luck havent found anything not sure if im just looking wrong but not sure what else to do.

I dont have alot of money i just spent about 450 this paycheck alone on parts and everything, i dont have the money to buy a crazy bad *** turbo and rtek right now and everywhere i look for a just s5 turbo its like 2800 or 400 not shipped....

any ideas on what i should do?

This is my daily as my wife left me and took my other car

Ben

when money is an issue, don't ever start a hobby like this.

sell it to someone who has the dough and buy something else as your DD.

you can snag a jspec in the for sale section every now and then for $200. hybrids are 400.

I'll sell you a s5 for $100 shipped with the manifold, but it has play.

you shouldn't be boosting your car until the motor's broken in anyway.

this is a game where you have to pay to play. its not your gay *** honda ****. rx7s cost money

but like stated above you can get a turbo used for 100-300 bucks. usually in really good condition.

go to turbocity and buy a T3 garrett rebuild kit, it will have the parts you need for about $100 to rebuild the turbo. there's a PDF somewhere on this site that has a "how to" on how to rebuild the Hitachi HT-18s turbo fairly reliably without the need to have it professionally balanced(balancing a rebuilt turbo is mainly for peace of mind if you are going to be pushing it anyways, unless it was damaged somehow).

Thanks Karack Thats exactly what i was looking for!

to the other guys Yea i know you dont get into this if you dont have the money but doing a compleat overhaul and paint and turbo in a month not many people have that kinda money on hand.

Also i didnt choose for it to be my DD im forced now as im losing my truck and my car to my wife...and if i thought this was my "Gay *** honda ****" i would just buy a turbo from ebay and push 30 pounds on a MBC.

And last im not boosting it, its a T2... already boosted

you do realize speedoflife was stating you shouldnt "be in boost"!"boosting"! during break in...not the term "boosting it" (turbo'ing a car).... but i do have a few turbos i can check and see how good they are...and you can have one for like $25..i dont need them

if you lived in the area i would have given you a stock turbo for free ...i know how it feels when you put it altogether then something always goes wrong

what i have learned is

1..it has to be a secondary car
2..get a standalone with harness
3..all knew cooling hoses

but im sure something else will go wrong

Rebuild the turbo ... but I would recommend getting a cheap *** 400$ saturn or honda civic or b2200/mighty max to get around town in the mean time. Girls always get everything unfortunately. When I get married... preenup for my macbook, rx7, ninja and kdx. I aint loosing my toys. No way.

Absolutely true. Start modding any car past the basics and it should be a secondary vehicle. Not necessarily because the modifications make it unreliable or unusable (they sure shouldn't, otherwise they are a downgrade) but because having a primary vehicle removes the pressure to always have the modded car up and running by Monday morning to go to work...

Yea so some crazy stuff happened in there and the exhaust side is all burnt up chipped and just straight up crapped and my mechanic had it looked at by a few people and its pretty much done sooooo

Im looking for a s5 turbo if anyone has one i have been sending messages left and right to people on the FS ads.
I get paid friday and i am going to buy then just let me know what you have!!!

As for the dd talked to the wife she is keeping the truck and letting me use the car until i get everything settled. eh it works so thats all good!!!

I'm glad your wife is letting you use the car brother. Good luck with everything and it never hurts to have some cheap beater car, even if as a backup to your daily driver RX-7. I'd do the same if I had somewhere to put the extra car.
