Unhappy Humming... WTF??? Help!

So, my '87 is having some humming issues, and I have no idea what the problem is...

I haven't driven my car in almost a year, as I was out of the country on an exchange. When I get back, it was in better shape than I left it, as my father had worked on some exhaust, etc, yet something new had popped up. My car now hums.

When I am driving, and put the foot on the gas a bit, I often times get a strange humming sound from what seems like the rearend, but I am not certain. Think of the normal sound of letting down the clutch, and the a second later add a big mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm to it. Maybe it is the bearings in the back or the diferential oil needs changed... I have no clue. Anyone else have these problems? Thanks for the help...

Alex

hm.. you said exhaust so maybe the airpump line that goes the the ACV is disconnected.. the sound would be coming from under the hood though. I don't know though just throwing this out there before I goto bed.

I'm sure it is neither. Definitely not the exhaust. It is something mechanical. Like, if I am in 5th gear going 60 or so, and I press hard on the gas, you can hear the funny hum. It sounds as if it may be something in my rear deferential or something.... I have no idea.
