Howto read a compressor map?

Ive been pooking around trying to find out what turbo is right for me, but instead of just asking "what turbo is good for x, or will give me x hp" , i want to beable to do all the math myself.

I was wondering if anyone has a link to a tutorial or would be willing to type a brief explanation of a compressor map such as efficency rating, surge limit, and to clarify what the x and y axis stand for.

There are a few math errors on this link, but the basics are correct:
http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/turbo/turboflow.html

Also, Corky Bell's books cover this subject well. The turbocharger book covers maps in cfm, while the supercharger book covers maps in lbs/min.

Note: When calculating the airflow for your rotary engine, double your displacement (ie 13B = 2.616 liters) for those 4-stroke piston engine formulas. This is because a 4-stroke piston engine fires only half its displacement per rev, while the rotary and 2-stroke piston engines fire all their displacement per rev.
