How's this for compressor surge!

I have a T04 60-1 turbo pushing 450hp on my 87 TII. I also have a blow off valve that has an opening that is way too small.

The size of the pipe that the BOV is welded onto the intercooler pipe is not even large enough to put my pinky finger in. I have been getting the flutter sound from my BOV for a while now, but didn't know that I was destroying my turbo.

Anyway, I was doing a little spirited driving when I got a weird noise from under the hood. Squeeling and clunking noises. I pulled over to check the car, and found nothing that I could see.

I finally got the car home and took my air filter of my turbo. My main nut that is on the end of the turbo shaft has worked itself loose and had my compressor wheel for dinner.

My turbo builder says I was probably having some serious compressor surge which made the turbo spin backwards fast enough to losen the nut. My turbo is now toast. So now I have to (1)get new BOV (2)get turbo rebuilt (3) make sure none of the pieces are not floating around in my pipes.

So the saga continues. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

That really sucks man, but that now i know i need to get a good size BOV.

Yeah...thats a bad deal. My question is..how is it possible you are running mid 13's with nearly 400 whp?

He made that much at 17psi, the 1/4 mile run was made at 10psi. On crappy street tires I'd assume, but that trap speed is about right on with the time...
