Cool Howdy, Finaly got a seven.(few questions)

Just got an 87 GXL with 170k miles for $1500. No rust, few little minor dents. Paint(red) is fading but other then that I love it. Runs great.
I have and will continue to keep searching threw the archives but I just want to make sure I have fairly good understanding of what to do and expect to do to this thing...
I will be taking it down to gothamracing for a compression test since it is a high milage engine. Although I admit I dont really know all the signs of a lowcompression.. about the only thing I have found threw searching is if it has trouble firing up hot...
Check oil and oil tempature everytime I get gas or ever few days. No synthetic oils unless its a high quality one.. I'll just avoid them all together though, if anyone recommends or highly doesnt recommend a brand/type I would be interested.
I have heard someone say something about "a redline a day keeps the trouble away". Does this just a few quick little rev's when its warmed up and thats it? Should I avoid doing this before I turn the car off?
I'm also thinking about getting a fuel pump kill switch. I have heard it helps to prevent the car from flooding and then their is the little theft protection from it that I like.
Other then a good tune up what should I do to the car to insure I get the most life out of it? It's been awhile since I have looked threw here about it but I remember people suggesting upgrading the cooling system.. I dont know if this is just for FD's or all rx7's in general though...

Also, when we started driving it around we turned the AC on and it didnt work then... then like 5 to 10 minutes later it kicked on... Is there something I should know about?(I'll start searching about that one..)

Anyway, I tried to start this thread out as more of a welcoming thread but.. yeah.. lol
Thanks.

Peace

About the redline thing, mostly you want to make sure to drive the car hard once and a while. Driving easily tends to coat things with carbon. Though really, you want to keep the car in good tune and avoid short starts.

Thanks for the link! That pretty much answers all my questions minus the AC one.(hopefully its just a stupid AC). I completely forgot that rotary's like low octane fuel.
and I guess the cold start system doesnt work... im glad to see they said not to worry about it though.

most likely the ac problems you are having are in your logicon and completly resoldering it should remidy this
i wouldnt use synthetics because of high milage but i would use catrol 20 50 gtx or any good 20 50 oil. i would run synthetics in your dif and trans i run royal purple

Oil = Castrol 20w50, about the A/C question mine had a similiar problem but it also invloved the wipers. I had no wipers and A/C unless I hite a big bump. I was screwing around with the ignition switch and found out if I turned the key back a little after the car was started the A/C and wipers would kick on. Bad ignition switch. Try it and see what happens.

Bad news...

wow what a crappy day...
Took it to gothamracing today to get a compression test got .6 sad.gif so I am about to give the guy a call and get my money back or make an offer to buy it from him for 200bucks and take the rest for a rebuild(worth a shot).
On the sad ride home it started to rain and the windsheild wipers didnt work so we couldnt see E36 M3 so we had to pull over twice to manualy wipe the windows. Then someone in a big pickup damn near plowed into us(hey the brakes still work!)
Then I get home and I am reminded that Bush one the election.(lol)

WHAT A CRAPPY DAY!

The guys at GothamRacing where really cool though and I greatly appricate the help. I will look foward to doing business with them in the future if I get another wankel.

Thanks for the help everyone. I guess I am still on my search for a car. So.. anyone have a car for sell for around 2grand? lol
