How is your front license plate installed?

Well I just got pulled over for having no license plate in the front of my FC for the second time now. I figure it's about time I did something about it...lol. Just curious how you all mounted it?

7th Deadly Sin 08-06-04 06:44 PM

it came w/a mount thingy but i took mines out, and just mounted it on my dashboard hahah, i've had threats from cops that if they see me again they'll give me a $55?or was it $75 reminder blah blah blah i dont give a shit

Gremlin 08-06-04 09:52 PM

Mine has a mounting bracket on the top side of the air dam.

SteveRanieri 08-06-04 10:17 PM

there isnt any rx7 license plate mount out there is there?

uRizen 08-06-04 10:20 PM

Mine was mounted with a bracket that came up from the upper edge of the front dam. There are two bolts there that held it on. It has since been removed and the law hasn't bothered this FC owner yet. :D

You say that now, but I bet when you actually get that fine we'll be the first to hear all about it... ;)

I use the factory bracket, but I've redrilled the plate to mount it further up so it doesn't block so much of the radiator intake.

ECKO1980 08-06-04 11:03 PM

I mounted mine in the garbage car, same place as all my other front plates go. Seriously though I have been pulled over for not having a front plate before but 100% of the time it hasnt really been about the plate i.e. "wheres your front plate? and by the way you were going a little fast back there" I have never gotten a front plate ticket though. I wouldnt worry about it too very much.

if your going to mount it you should mount it low on the bumper on a bracket with a weak hinge so it faces the ground at speed then pops back up at a stop ;)

rowtareh? 08-06-04 11:12 PM

Damn, you all must drive like complete asses. I have never been given shit about my license plate. I put mine in the dashboard, on the left side. LOL. Maniac drivers I tell ya.

OverDriven 08-06-04 11:12 PM

Depends on where you live. The cops around here are Nazi's when it comes to having a front plate.

rowtareh? 08-06-04 11:20 PM

I guess maryland is really nice about certain things. I have never been given shit about anything on my car. The only that is wrong with it is the front license plate. And my car is bone stock, and I don't peel out at stop lights, and don't race on the streets. Maybe that is why?

And the other reason why is my car is getting rebuilt also. Haha.

SteveRanieri 08-06-04 11:39 PM

Well cops around here are dicks...the guy was behind me in the fast lane...i pulled over for him cause he was on my ass like they always are...he speeds past me...slows down to the point where i have to pass him...then he pulls me over for it. but he never did really tell me what he pulled me over for like they usually do. I know he wanted to get me...I've gotten like 12 tickets in my FC and none in my other car which is a Jetta. They target "fast looking cars" w/ young "punks" driving. So now I'm not going to give them any reason to pull me over in the first place.

eyeoutthere 08-06-04 11:54 PM

I have never been bothered in Rochester for not having a front plate. Then again, I don't drive my RX7 that much on the street.

If you drive conservatively, chances are, they will not bother you.

Tessai 08-06-04 11:55 PM

Heh, funny...

I've had more tickets in my Jetta than my 7 :/

deltr0n` 08-07-04 12:03 AM

in japan they have mounting kits to mount it off to the side, that comes out through the grill. find someone to import you one

SteveRanieri 08-07-04 12:57 AM

know where i can find one?

Dan H 08-07-04 01:03 AM

Cops here can give you a ticket while your car is parked if you have no front plate. But if you own a Corvette C5 with no front plate, you won't get a ticket.

here is the only place it looks good....I have a FMIC-I still have great cooling-same as with it off...never a problem with overheating...even while in Italy, in 100+F heat, stuck on the Autostrada in traffic(dead stop) heading towards Venice...all it takes is two small screws...secure enough for 150+mph speeds

Everything with you guys has to be a "kit" doesn't it? ;) There's no such thing, they simply screw the plate into the bumper where they want it or fab up some brackets. Even if such a kit existed, actually paying to import one would be madness...

Kenteth 08-07-04 02:57 AM

SD plates were bolted (yes bolted) directly to car

cloead 08-07-04 03:35 AM

two self tapping screws into my bumper.. looks like crap but im sick of getting pulled over

Crash Test Joey 08-07-04 05:58 AM

Two screws into the bumper cover. Some parts of Maryland have cops that do pull people over for it - and I've got enough "non-compliant" parts on my car it's not worth drawing that much more attention to it :D

i don't see what the problem is :p

you: "was i doing something wrong officer?"

cop: "son don't you know you're gonna suck water into your engine, through your missing front plate"

no, acutally I just like things that belong, not some lame halfass homemade "bracket" ... and who said anything about paying to import one? that why you have friends there that can get it for you for cheap, you DO have friends right?

HAILERS 08-07-04 01:07 PM

***Well I just got pulled over for having no license plate in the front of my ******

Don't feel lonely. That happened to me this week. They use the lack of a front plate for just cause to stop you and interrogate you. I'm of the belief they are hoping to find stolen things in your car or drugs and make a easy arrest. In other words they're out there fishing and you/I have given them an opening, so to speak. I'm not anti cop or anything...it's just the way things are/work in life.

Three weeks ago they stopped me at 2am a half block from my house .......supposedly for not making a left turn signal in my neighborhood. While one cop checked up on my arrest record, the other in a round about way explained how they were looking for mischief makers in my neighbor hood (read THIEVES{Thiefs??} sp. and the lack of a turn signal gave them the opening to stop me with cause.

Anyway, my front plate still resides in the rear near the spare tire....under the carpet.

EfiniGirl 08-07-04 02:22 PM

That's strange. I never got pulled over before. Which is a good thing since I haven't yet gotten Jersey inspection yet (bought in Pennsylvania) and my license is on my dashboard. So far no problems...

After a couple tickets, I decided I needed to do something. The studs in the stock mount location where rusted to hell (they weren't used since the previous owner moved to Florida in '92) so I grabbed a couple self-tapping screws and went to work. The goal was to not block the radiator, and not stick over the hood.

It's only lame and halfass if you make it that way... ;)

grafddrx7 08-07-04 09:59 PM

Victoria British sells a front plate bracket pretty cheap, I think... (Don't have the catalog handy to givce you a price.)

Even though Ohio law requires front plates, I never got pulled-over in my 7, Miata, or mr2 without them... Moved to a college town in NW Ohio, and immediately got stopped on may way home from work at 11 PM in a frickin Olds 88 for no plate...

drcoopster 08-07-04 10:21 PM

Ahh, a fellow Rochesterian. My S4 came with a little metal bracket (looks factory) that sticks out and up from the openings in the front of the bumper. If you are desperate, you can order it from Mazdatrix.

no plate! cause in Alberta, Canada there isnt a law... stating that we need front plates!

trueimport 08-09-04 09:59 PM

Get rid of it!!!!!!!!!! they look GAY on any car!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont care how you mount it, its still going to look like crap!!!!

Wanked_FC 08-09-04 11:19 PM

What plate? I've never had a front on any of my cars. The cops don't care. I drive past sheriffs and troopers all day. Never once had a problem. I was pulled over once for toasting a 'red' light, nm it was yellow when i went thru. I got a warning for it, and the officer noted I had no front plate, but he said with a car like this I wouldnt want to wreck the looks with a front plate. So he ignored it. Never ever had a problem since.

zip ties work for me

SureShot 08-10-04 06:53 AM

I liked the way some Japanese race shop mounted it on a hinge so when your at speed it folds back into the grill opening.

Sort of like Toomuch4you above with the hinge at the top of the plate.

siamiam 08-10-04 07:04 AM

ive got mine on the lower right side of my dash

introVert 08-10-04 08:52 AM

One plate state-
and no emissions.

Except for the 90% friggin humidity, and the hugeass bugs, Florida rocks!

sweet thanks...what part of Rochester you from?

drcoopster 08-11-04 02:50 PM

I'm in Henrietta now, but I'm originally from the Blackstone Valley (Massachusetts) area.

I love that hinge idea, I might have to give it a shot. I've tried the dashboard thing before (on my volvo) but the authorities were none to pleased. But that was in Massachusetts ...

Aaron Cake 08-11-04 03:31 PM

There is a stock bracket made by Mazda. Probably available at any dealer. Looks like this:

...Or just fab one up yourself.

jon88se 08-11-04 03:48 PM

No front plate...in my experience you will never get pulled over JUST for this. The cop has to be really really bored hehe

SteveRanieri 08-12-04 04:06 AM

Ha I'm in Henrietta too. I think I may have actually driven by your house a few times. You dont happen to live on E. Henrietta do you?
