i think when i rebuild my motor in my 88 N/A SE this spring, i'll probably spend roughly $1k on lil mods like maybe exhaust stuff, porting, etc... wut i'm curious is what all of you would do.... let me hear your ideas... it get's a lil over $1k, that's ok too

Header, highflow cat (or MP) and CS catback. Then suspension stuff, strut/spring combo. All that should be a little over $1000

Id go to junk yards to find the exhaust. Chances are there is a wrecked 7 w/ a corksport or hks (or something, you get the point). The header might be harder to find (cat backs are more common imo) so you might have to get that new. Id get the proper equipement to port as much as I could, silicon vac lines. The rest would go into good tires/springs/replacing every mount/bushing on the car I could.

I would buy the stuff I need to FINISH my rebuild. Ack! All these clean engine parts laying around but no seals and gaskets to go with them.

Rico is right it all depends on what you want to upgrade. Naturally if my car was a piece with shitty interior I would spend money to get that fixed.

Power
RB Header/presilencer $350-$400
Apexi N1 exhaust $450-$500
K&N cone filter with custom cold air box $50
PA sleeves $50

AGX's and groundcontrol coilovers, that's roughly $800, and a nice exhaust setup to cover the rest.

Assuming it's a stock NA with a perfect running engine...

- shocks and springs
- header
- exhaust system (buy mandrel bends, get local shop to make the rest).. no cats
- cone air filter
- upgraded radiator
- other little things (gauges, silicon hoses, etc)

I think the question should be, "Why would you?"

I would buy:
Perform a FULL 60K tune-up
Flush and Refill all fluids, using synthetics
Rebuild brakes, SS lines
KYB AGX Struts
4 Wheel alignment
4.30 Rear-end
Exhaust system

The point of my mods list is to Base-line the car to the way It should be.

with an na...suspension mods would be where I'd place the money.
I noticed the better handling on mine than I did the few ponies the exhaust and intake did.
OR..another na I had, I got a deal on a good weber carb NIIICE!

suspension mods, new tires, header, and short shifter. That's what I'm doing to mine eventually.

Well, it depends really.

Drag strip would be
Header/cat replacement pipe/clutch/cat back
and the big one would be racing differential or just weld it.

Handling would be struts/coilovers
strut bars/tires/and maybe brakes?

Although I am getting pissed off at the lack of power my FC has.

I have a 88 GTU with 86k and the Bonez Super Flo downpipe/highflow cat and CS single catback, ebay cone filter, removed a/c, put on E-fan and the fastest I think is 16.9 in the 1/4.

That's just killing me. I love my RX but I am barely keeping with Hondas and other **** mobiles.

So I say save the 1k and either get a TII or get a TII engine or put a turbo on your N/A.
Unfortunately that's what I am thinking of doing.

My body is in great condition and I have the TII suspension and brakes, so I would love to go Turbo but I don't have money to throw around so a TII mioght be in my future.

=====OH YEAH! Buy my 88 SE!!! I'll be that much closer to getting a turbo!

I got this **** for my N/A with 1k
Apexi N1 exaust-paid $500
HKS intake-paid $50
Bonez straight pipe-paid $160
so not even 1k
It runs rich but these mods completly change the car, its 10 times funner, sounds incredible, is much faster than stock, and backfires enough to melt paint off tail gaiters
Hella fun, only now i dont have her any more...kinda

damn these are all great ideas... has broadened my ideas for sure... Digi7ech, i don't know why your rx is so slow... should be faster than that by at least 3 seconds in the 1/4... any more ideas or anyone would agree with anyone over others in here????

thanx

Where I expect to be spending my money, RX-7 wise:

new stock clutch
Koni Sports
new stock susp. bushings
spare set of rims (same size/offset as stock)
set of Kuhmo Ecsta 700

With labor, that might go over $1k.. I'm not sure I want to do the clutch and susp. bushings work myself.

16.9?!?!?!

Digi7ech,

Are your secondary ports opening up at high rpms? A stock GTU should be able to run a 16.2-16.5 in the 1/4 mile. With your modifications I would think it would easily run a high 15 sec 1/4 mile.
