How to tell if u have LSD

yes, i searched..

If both wheels spin the same way when the car is jacked up and u spin one the other should spin the same direction?

Or opposite direction? what happens if its opposite direction? open differential?

Also-- Would a GXL LSD swap directly into the housing of a sport Open differential?

thanks alot

Alot depends on which type of LSD you have as to how it will react. Best bet would be the good ol' burout test. Park the car with one wheel on a soft slippery surfact, such as in grass, and the other wheel on pavement. Spin the tires and see if the wheel on the pavement spins as well as the one in the grass. And yes, a LSD unit will swap directly over into an open diff... As Ive encounteded lately, vicsous LSDs use uneven length axle stubs, so you will need to swap those also if its a S5 LSD unit.

Why swap into the housing? You can get a complete GXL rear diff. for not too much if you shop around.

You were right with the wheels spinning the same direction. THAT would be LSD while if they spin opposite directions it'd be an open dif.
