how to store a transmission for an extended period of time??

My friend hooked me up with his transmission with relatively low miles on it.
The tranny that is in my car now is currently in good condition but I thought I would hang on to this extra tranny in case I start to have problems with mine.

Is there a particular way I should store the tranny in order to preserve it??
I imagine it will sit for a few years and would hate for it to sieze up while in storage. Thanks for any help!!

trade transmissions once every month

I'm sure if you google for 'storing transmissions' or 'storing motors' you'd find some suggestions. I'm sure most affordable options include coating the insides and out with some sort of oily product.
